About The Position

Suffolk County Department of Health Services is seeking an Addictions Counselor. This role involves interviewing and screening individuals for supportive counseling, planning, implementing, and evaluating individualized treatment plans, monitoring patient progress, and providing individual and group counseling services. The position also requires maintaining patient records and reports, collaborating with supervisors and staff, and potentially conducting educational sessions. Candidates must possess a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) and a current certification from NYS Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS). The work shift is Monday-Friday, 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, with potential for flexibility.

Current certification from NYS Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS)
Uphold the OASAS Scope of Practice and the Canon of Ethical Principals
Not seeking CASAC-T certification

Nice To Haves

Possession of the requirements necessary to be designated as a Qualified Health Professional (QHP) with one year of experience or satisfactory completion of a training program in the treatment of substance use disorders.

Responsibilities

Interviews and screens individuals for supportive counseling
Plans, implements and evaluates an individualized treatment plan for each patient
Monitors patient progress and makes recommendations for further treatment if necessary
Provides individual and group counseling services
Maintains patient records and reports
Collaborates with supervisors and clinic staff regarding patient progress and patient services
May conduct education and information sessions, workshops, and training programs for individuals with substance use disorders and members of their community
