About The Position

The Salvation Army's Harbor Light program is seeking an Addictions Counselor to provide substance abuse treatment and support. The program aims to offer holistic services to clients with chemical dependency problems and their families. The role involves working within a treatment environment where clients may exhibit a variety of behaviors, requiring employees to respond appropriately and maintain professional conduct.

Requirements

  • Certified in the State of Illinois as a Certified Addictions Counselor (CADC) required.
  • Must be able to provide individual counseling, group counseling, and assessment to clients.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with supervisor, other clinical staff, and support staff.
  • Must have a strong sense of integrity and be able to work with confidential material.
  • Must be able to work with clients that have poor social skills, suffer from mental illness, and have substance abuse problems.
  • Regularly required to use standard office equipment and PC.

Nice To Haves

  • A Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Two years’ experience as a Counselor preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide substance abuse treatment services including individual, family, couples, and group counseling.
  • Provide individual and/or group counseling to clients with addictions and related problems, potentially functioning as an intake worker.
  • Develop, review, and update client treatment plans with clients.
  • Prepare summaries of cases for consultation.
  • Develop aftercare plans during discharge and referral, and follow up on these plans.
  • Network with other Salvation Army programs and outside agencies to provide quality options for clients.
  • Actively participate in the multidisciplinary team approach and the milieu therapy program.
  • Attend staff meetings and participate in the Unit’s staff committees.
  • Maintain records according to policy and prepare statistical and other required reports.
  • Work on either of the two shifts of the Unit, as shift assignments may change periodically.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
