Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum two (2) years of sustained, personal recovery from mental health conditions, substance use disorder, or co-occurring disorder.
  • Must hold an active Core Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) or Advance Peer Recovery Specialist (APRS) credential issued via the Arkansas Peer Recovery Program/NAADAC.
  • Alternatively, must be actively registered as a Peer-in-Training (PIT) with a documented path to complete required 500 experience hours and pass the national exam within six (6) to twelve (12) months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Provide person-centered peer support and mentorship to individuals experiencing mental health and re-occurring challenges.
  • Conduct person-centered, one-on-one coaching utilizing evidence-based practices.
  • Lead peer-led support groups focused on mental health coping strategies, emotional regulation, resilience, and secondary substance use awareness.
  • Attend multidisciplinary treatment team meetings to present patient perspectives and advocate for self-determination and dignity in care.
  • Apply trauma-informed care and active listening to provide calming presence and aid clinical staff during patient distress.
  • Assist patients in building discharge wellness plans and bridging transitions to local community mental health centers, outpatient care, housing, and regional peer networks.
  • Adhere strictly to the Arkansas Peer Recovery Code of Ethics, maintaining rigorous boundaries, patient confidentiality, and proper electronic medical records (EMR) documentation.
