About The Position

We are seeking a board-certified, fellowship-trained Addiction Medicine Physician to join our multidisciplinary team. This full-time position combines outpatient clinic coverage five days per week with inpatient consultation support across the hospital. The physician will serve as a clinical leader in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with substance use disorders (SUDs) and co-occurring conditions.

Requirements

  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited Addiction Medicine fellowship
  • Board certification in Addiction Medicine (ABPM or ABAM) — required; candidates with active board eligibility and a clear timeline to certification will be considered
  • Current New Jersey medical license or eligibility to obtain prior to start date
  • Current DEA registration
  • Demonstrated experience managing patients with complex SUD and co-occurring psychiatric and medical conditions
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively in a high-volume, multidisciplinary urban hospital environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with hospital-based MAT bridge programs or Emergency Department SUD intervention protocols preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care five days per week in the Addiction Medicine clinic
  • Provide as needed inpatient consultative services for admitted patients with substance use disorder management needs
  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations and develop individualized treatment plans for patients with alcohol, opioid, stimulant, and polysubstance use disorders
  • Prescribe and manage medication-assisted treatment (MAT) in compliance with current DEA regulations and NJ state law
  • Collaborate with behavioral health, social work, and care coordination teams to support patient retention and recovery
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinic operations meetings
  • Lead development of a MAT bridge program in partnership with the Emergency Department and aligned with the goal to reduce 30-day substance use disorder readmissions.
  • Respond to consult requests from inpatient units including the ED, trauma service, medicine, and surgical floors
  • Assess and manage acute withdrawal syndromes, initiate bridge treatment, and develop discharge plans with transition to outpatient care
  • Provide education and guidance to inpatient teams on SUD identification and evidence-based management
  • Partner with case management and social work on complex discharge planning for high-risk patients
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the EMR
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, Joint Commission standards, and applicable NJ state regulations
  • Contribute to staff and resident education as clinically appropriate
  • Participate in on-call coverage rotation as required
