About The Position

In Product Development, we make driving more exciting, enjoyable, and sustainable. Ford's Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) team designs and develops hardware and functional models that deliver best-in-class behavior for features like Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Emergency Braking, Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Centering Assist, BlueCruise, and 360-Degree Camera Systems. We are seeking seasoned professionals with experience in vehicle motion control to contribute to our efforts. This position focuses on leading and supporting vehicle motion engineering development for our BlueCruise features.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Controls Engineering, or a closely related field
  • 3+ years of in-vehicle lateral or longitudinal motion development experience
  • 3+ years of experience working with MATLAB/Simulink
  • Knowledge of vehicle dynamics and chassis components
  • Ability to lead a small project, demonstrate ownership, and take initiative to further improve features

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Controls Engineering, or a closely related field
  • 5+ years of industry experience with steering, brake systems, and/or chassis controls development
  • 5+ years of industry experience with ADAS features and/or autonomous vehicle controls
  • Strong background in vehicle dynamics, system identification, optimization and control. Deep understanding and application experience in advanced model-based control techniques, including state estimation, Kalman filtering, linear and nonlinear control methods
  • Hardware hands-on experience highly preferred, including experience in dSpace rapid prototyping, Vector tools.
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing, categorizing, and analyzing field data to determine error states and failure modes
  • Demonstrated experience with model-based design methods in Simulink for the creation, development, and enhancement of current and new features
  • Algorithm development experience in any language (C, C++, Python, MATLAB, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Translate customer and corporate vehicle motion performance needs and requirements into (sub)system requirements and specifications
  • Develop the longitudinal and lateral vehicle motion performance attributes for BlueCruise features
  • Develop and validate vehicle motion performance algorithms in-vehicle
  • Create in-vehicle Design Verification Methods for vehicle motion
  • Calibrate vehicle motion performance algorithms in-vehicle
  • Develop in-vehicle toolsets that support development of the vehicle motion performance attribute
  • Lead and coordinate root-cause analysis of vehicle motion performance error states
  • Utilize AI tools and agents for data analysis and calibration optimization
  • Travel to Arizona 2 - 4 weeks annually as needed.
