ADAPTIVE PROGRAMS INSTRUCTOR
About The Position
The Adaptive Programs Instructor is responsible for refereeing, coaching, and/or supervising various sports programs. This role involves enforcing Channel Islands YMCA policies and procedures, responding to emergency situations, and completing incident reports. The instructor will provide inclusive instruction based on best practices, manage equipment setup and breakdown, and deliver exceptional customer service to foster connections with members. Additionally, the position requires participation in in-service trainings, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment, and ensuring the safety and proper supervision of children. The role also includes supporting the annual campaign, understanding the responsibilities of a mandated reporter, and reporting any concerns regarding building, grounds, or equipment.
Requirements
- Must be at least 16 years old
- Ability to obtain a criminal record clearance, if over 18 years old
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid work permit required if a minor
- Complete required certifications within 60 days of hire
- Complete all required Branch and Position specific trainings as required within two weeks of hire

Responsibilities
- Refereeing, coaching, and/or supervising various sports programs
- Enforce and follow all Channel Islands YMCA policy and procedures
- Respond to emergency situations in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures
- Complete incident reporting
- Provide instruction that is inclusive and based on best practices
- Set up and put away equipment before and after sports programs
- Provide exceptional customer service and foster connections with members
- Participate and satisfactory completion of in-service trainings
- Create an environment that is welcoming, nurturing, and inclusive for all members and guests
- Able to work collaboratively and respectfully as part of a staff team
- Ensure building, grounds, and equipment are in working order. Report any concerns
- Maintain certifications and take advantage of professional growth opportunities
- Support the annual campaign process including education of members
- Understand your role as a mandated reporter of elder and child abuse. Report and respond to situations in accordance with policies and procedures
- Ensure safety of children in facilities and programs and that proper supervision is provided
