The purpose of this position is to design a specialized physical education curriculum adapted to the needs of the children. The role involves creating a climate of warmth, acceptance, and encouragement that fosters growth and development in all children regardless of disability. Every effort has been made to identify the essential functions of this position. Under the guidance of the School Administration, the teacher will understand and promote Elizabeth Seton Children’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values, ensuring adherence to organizational policies and procedures. This role requires demonstrating knowledge of NYS Learning Standards through the development and implementation of weekly lesson plans that address individual student goals and strengthen home-school learning continuity. The teacher will design an adaptive physical education (APE) program, including aquatic programming in collaboration with a transdisciplinary team, to meet each child's IEP goals. Integration of SED Learning Standards and Teaching Standards into effective goals and practices is crucial for positive child outcomes. Participation in meetings and consultations with education staff and the multidisciplinary team regarding each child's needs related to their APE program is expected. The role involves creating an organized and safe learning environment, maintaining APE materials and equipment, and adhering to the daily school schedule. The teacher will lead a team of paraprofessional staff in executing lesson plans and maintain accurate record-keeping and IEP Goal tracking documentation as required by SED and Coleman School Policy. Active participation in the creation and implementation of an individual and school-wide Professional Development Plan is also a key responsibility. The position requires adherence to standards for customer service, quality improvement, professional development, environmental, safety, and infection control practices, confidentiality, corporate compliance, and all other John A. Coleman policies and procedures, including attending mandatory in-services for regulatory compliance and best practices. Other tasks to support school operations may be assigned by School Administration.
