About The Position

POSITION SUMMARY Fabricate special positioning devices, and other adapted equipment as per the needs of the children/residents of the Elizabeth Seton Children’s Center. To provide assistance and guidance to the therapy staff in all aspects of fabrication of adapted equipment. To fabricate prescribed adaptive positioning devices upon receipt of specifications as per work orders (measure, outline, cut, sew, drill, hammer, screw) and also use of workshop machinery and industrial sewing machine. To repair, make necessary revisions to and provide maintenance of devices upon receipt of work order. Dispense equipment to therapists/neighborhoods upon completion (all work requested is done, item is clean, safe, name tags on all pieces, paperwork completed). Attendance required at in-house adaptive equipment clinics to assess seating needs. Emergency repairs of wheelchairs and positioning devices as needed. Assist in the inventory and organization of adaptive equipment workshop and tools/supplies on an ongoing basis. Understanding & involvement in inventory/maintenance of the adapted equipment workshop. Input in purchasing of supplies for adaptive equipment workshop. To maintain and track the return of equipment no longer used by residents in the facility as well as residents discharged from the facility. Maintenance review of all equipment returned to inventory. Working in a proficient & cost-effective manner as is required for the adapted equipment workshop. Participation in the in-service education to enhance clinical and professional competence. To assist the adaptive equipment and rehabilitation staff as needed. Contribute to and promote a collaborative work environment. Exchanging of skills and procedures is important for this niche role. To Prioritize work orders for repairs and complete as per need. To complete work order documentation as jobs are completed and ready for fittings and/or being dispensed. Carry out standards for customer service; quality improvement; professional development; environmental, safety and infection control practices; confidentiality, corporate compliance and all other Pediatric Center policies and procedures; attend all mandatory in-services to ensure regulatory compliance and best practices in working with residents and their families. Other related duties as may become necessary or as directed by your supervisor, department director, and/or administrator.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience working complex rehabilitation technology
  • Experience with adaptive equipment such as tilt in space and power wheelchairs
  • Experience with tools required for fabrication and repair of wheelchairs and other adaptive equipment
  • Strong experience with craftsmanship and carpentry skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Adaptable learner
  • Attentive listener with critical and creative thinking ability
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Ability to trouble shoot mechanical and/or electrical issues
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language fluently.
  • Must meet or exceed all health standards and requirements for the position as established by NYDOH and all other regulatory agencies.
  • Must meet the general health requirements set fourth by the policies of this Center which includes a medical and physical examination.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of thirty-five (35) pounds.
  • Perform tasks that may involve exposure to the resident’s blood/body fluids.
  • Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents, if necessary.

Responsibilities
