This position performs procedures by following and verifying referring providers’ orders. Uses independent judgment and applies learned methodologies according to established policy and procedures for 4 Ultrasound certifications. Requirements

  • Requires national certification in 4 areas of specialty from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS), Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • BLS certification required.
  • This position requires clinical knowledge typically achieved with 5 or more years of experience.
  • Must demonstrate effective communication skills, human relations skills, ability to analyze data and solve problems.

Responsibilities

  • Performs exams by following and verifying referring providers’ orders. Adheres to established protocols and provides all pertinent patient information utilized by Radiologist for complete dictation. Uses independent judgement and applies learned methodologies according to established policy and procedures for all ultrasound exams. Scanning competencies should include, at a minimum, all patient ages, acuity levels and classes, independently and without quality issues. Achieves image capture under the most challenging situations. Performs problem solving, triages orders and effectively communicates findings with Radiologist. Produces efficient images with high quality output. Leads ultrasound team in absence of team lead or manager. Anticipates and calmly resolves complex issues. Performs ultrasound guided procedures and works closely with radiologist or provider.
  • Educates patients and families regarding procedure and/or treatment to be performed. Fosters teamwork, ensures efficient use of resources and advocates for quality patient outcomes which aid in diagnosis and care plan. Communicates in a professional manner with patients consistent with Banner core values.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert within their 4 registries. May present quarterly to team at staff meeting and/or participate in other opportunities to improve quality. Performs quality control checks on images and equipment as requested. Responsible for maintaining on-going Quality Control (QC) processes.
  • Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements. Performs troubleshooting and notifies appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance. Facilitates and follows up on repairs and maintenance as needed on equipment and supplies. Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors. Adheres to safety policies.
  • Consistently documents findings in a professional and clear manner. Follows standardized protocols without variation. Captures high quality images in the standardized format. Ensures patient questions are answered in a timely manner. Possesses experience needed to decipher between incorrect and correct order. Advocates on behalf of patient to ensure exam performed will provide a diagnostic answer supporting continued care.
  • Demonstrates competence in performing prescribed invasive/interventional/ultrasound guided procedures if applicable and in accordance with established policies. Maintains proficiency and competencies signed off for all studies related to certifications. Establishes trusted working relationships with Radiologists, supports efficiency of procedures/exams performed, anticipates radiologist’s needs and coordinates care from beginning to end. May serve as a preceptor to train new staff and provide technical expertise to staff in all areas of modality.
  • Accountable for the ethical, legal, professional and certification responsibilities related to the practice. Maintains confidentiality of all work information.
  • Helps facilitate efficient workflows in the department through patient triage and prioritization. Monitors and maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and material to ensure uninterrupted services. Continuously supports modality and department initiatives created by leadership for expedited patient throughput.
  • Internal customers: All levels of medical imaging and nursing management and staff, medical staff, and all other members of the interdisciplinary health care team. External Customers: regulatory and health agencies, patients, and family members.
