About The Position

This position is for an Acute Ultrasound Technologist I at Banner Estrella Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. The role is a general ultrasound technologist position requiring proficiency in abdominal, obstetric, pediatric, procedural, and vascular ultrasound examinations. Banner Estrella Medical Center, opened in 2005, is a 317-bed (later stated as 353-bed) acute care hospital providing a full range of health care services to the fast-growing communities of west Phoenix. It is an innovative, fully electronic facility that features electronic medical records, computerized physician order entry, digital radiography, and sophisticated ICU monitoring. The hospital has been named one of the "ten most innovative hospitals in the country" by Newsweek Magazine and is recognized by U.S. News and World Report as one of Phoenix's Best Hospitals. The hospital is designed to provide a soothing, healing atmosphere for both patients and their family members, encouraging the use of therapies such as pet therapy, aromatherapy, spiritual care, and Reiki Therapy. The technologist performs procedures by following and verifying referring providers’ orders, using independent judgment and applying learned methodologies according to established policy and procedures for one Ultrasound certification.

Requirements

  • National certification in one area of specialty from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS), Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Uncertified new hires who are Registry eligible must obtain certification within 12 months of hire and image with an experienced technologist until they become fully proficient.
  • BLS certification.
  • Successful completion of education and competencies via a clinical rotation with sign-off.
  • Must also attain physics and body part exam.
  • Clinical knowledge typically achieved by 0-3 years of experience.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Human relations skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and solve problems.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all exams by following and verifying referring providers’ orders, adhering to established protocols, and providing all pertinent patient information utilized by Radiologist for complete dictation.
  • Uses independent judgement and applies learned methodologies according to established policy and procedures for all ultrasound exams, with scanning competencies including, at a minimum, all patient ages, acuity levels and classes, independently and without quality issues.
  • Performs ultrasound guided procedures and works closely with radiologist or provider.
  • Educates patients and families about procedure and/or treatment to be performed.
  • Demonstrates professional behavior and conduct in all interactions, fostering teamwork, ensuring efficient use of resources, and advocating for quality patient outcomes.
  • Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements, performs troubleshooting as needed, and notifies appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance.
  • Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors, adhering to safety policies and ensuring imaging areas and equipment are in a constant state of "Ready".
  • Demonstrates competence in performing prescribed invasive/interventional procedures if applicable and in accordance with established policies.
  • Maintains proficiency and competencies signed off for all studies related to certification(s), performing high quality imaging in accordance with training received.
  • Accountable for the ethical, legal, professional and certification responsibilities related to the practice, maintaining confidentiality of all work information.
  • Assures the efficient operation of workflow in the department through patient triage and prioritization.
  • Monitors and maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and material to ensure uninterrupted services.
