About The Position

The Acute Patient Care Technician must demonstrate familiarity with dialysis procedures and the knowledge, skills, and judgment necessary to assume the responsibility of caring for, or supporting the care of, the dialysis patient in the acute or post-acute care setting. This position exercises knowledge of patient rights and ensures an atmosphere that allows for the privacy, dignity, and well-being of all patients in a safe, secure environment. The position works under the supervision of a physician or registered nurse experienced or trained in dialysis treatment. Cooperates and works together with all co-workers to plan and complete job duties with applicable supervisory direction, including exercising job-appropriate judgment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required, or 4+ years of dialysis experience if allowed by state regulations.
  • Completion of unit-specific training with demonstrated competency.
  • Must meet state/licensing requirements.
  • Experienced PCTs need current certification from BONENT, NNCC, NNCO, and/or state certification as applicable; new PCTs must certify within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required for experienced PCTs; new PCTs must obtain within 30 days.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, instructions, and manuals, and communicate effectively with clients and coworkers.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous ESRD experience preferred.
