About The Position

The Acute Care Medicine unit at Barnes-Jewish Hospital (South Campus) is a 25-bed unit that manages patients with a wide range of clinical issues, including blood dyscrasias, advanced endocrine pathology, heart and renal failure, GI conditions, infectious diseases, asthma, and many other conditions and diseases. Due to the acuity of our patients, we provide advanced training to bring new nurses to the highest level of functioning. Each unit is led by a clinical manager and lead charge nurse, and is supported by an advanced practice nurse. Additionally, each unit is assigned a case manager, social worker, physical therapist, dietitian, and pharmacist. This multidisciplinary team collaborates with physicians, nurses, and patient care technicians to deliver quality patient care. Requirements

• Nursing Diploma/Associate's in Nursing
• No Experience
• No Supervisor Experience
• RN License
• To maintain PRN employment status requires working 24 hours every six-weeks
• PRN roles require completing BJC New Employee Orientation, Centralized Nursing Orientation, BJH Nursing Orientation and EPIC Training first week of employment Mon-Fri approx 8AM-5PM CST

Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care.
• Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment.
• Educates patients and their families on how to manage their illness or injury, including post treatment home care needs and medication administration.
• Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance.
• Participates in professional development.
• Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with other members of the interprofessional team and patient, family or caregiver in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care.
• Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.
• Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care.
• Assess patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.
• The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
