The Acute Care Medicine unit at Barnes-Jewish Hospital (South Campus) is a 25-bed unit that manages patients with a wide range of clinical issues, including blood dyscrasias, advanced endocrine pathology, heart and renal failure, GI conditions, infectious diseases, asthma, and many other conditions and diseases. Due to the acuity of our patients, we provide advanced training to bring new nurses to the highest level of functioning. Each unit is led by a clinical manager and lead charge nurse, and is supported by an advanced practice nurse. Additionally, each unit is assigned a case manager, social worker, physical therapist, dietitian, and pharmacist. This multidisciplinary team collaborates with physicians, nurses, and patient care technicians to deliver quality patient care. Barnes-Jewish Hospital is the largest hospital in Missouri and is ranked among the nation's top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. It is part of the Washington University Medical Center and features full-time academic faculty and community physicians from the Washington University School of Medicine, supported by residents, interns, fellows, and other medical professionals. Barnes-Jewish Hospital was the first adult hospital in Missouri to be certified as a Magnet Hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, recognizing its excellence in nursing care.
