About The Position

The Acute Care Technician II - Med Surg Urology position provides assistance and/or performs basic activities of daily living and specified treatments and procedures under the direct supervision of the nurse. This position may perform non-direct patient care activities as assigned, requested, or directed. This position also performs clerical duties as assigned. The role requires interpersonal skills to communicate with respect and compassion to customers. This position also communicates information through various telecommunication devices and assists in coordinating patient flow. Unit 14AB is a medical unit with 22 beds, caring for adult and geriatric patients with varied medical diagnoses including complications from diabetes, pneumonia, cellulitis, encephalopathy, and remote telemetry. The unit also cares for renal and urology surgery patients, including those who have had a nephrectomy, prostatectomy, transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP), and those with continuous bladder irrigation (CBI). Patients requiring peritoneal dialysis (PD) treatments also have their care managed by trained 14AB nurses. This unit supports the growth and learning of new graduates and provides opportunities to master time management and skills such as suprapubic catheter exchange, continuous bladder irrigation, vascath removal, and peritoneal dialysis.

Requirements

  • 2 years High School Education
  • Age 17 with work permit
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Reading and math ability appropriate to the position
  • Experience as an STNA, PCA or ACT strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provides basic patient care under RN supervision; completes assigned tasks accurately and on time.
  • Maintains competency in required skills and seeks clarification when needed.
  • Ensures a safe environment; reports hazards, follows infection control, and adheres to safety/emergency procedures.
  • Communicates respectfully and professionally with patients, families, and staff; collaborates effectively with the healthcare team.
  • Documents care and observations per organizational guidelines; maintains medical records and performs downtime procedures.
  • Answers phones and call lights promptly; relays accurate messages and assists with unit flow and customer service needs.
  • Manages supplies and equipment, reporting shortages or malfunctions and ensuring readiness for the next user.
  • Demonstrates accountability, supports organizational changes, and engages in ongoing self-development.
