About The Position

Assumes responsibility and accountability for all care rendered to SV Endoscopy patients. Assesses all patients entering their care, validates information on the patient chart/history and provides care throughout all phases of the endoscopy process. Strives to work in harmony with GI physicians, anesthesia, other department staff members, and ancillary departments. The delivery of professional nursing care at Stormont Vail Health is guided by Jean Watson's Theory of Human Caring and the theory of Shared governance, both of which are congruent with the mission, vision, and values of the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) Preferred
  • Registered Nurse - KSBN or multistate license with the ability to practice within the State of Kansas.
  • Basic Life Support - BLS (Must have within 90 days of hire. RQI, CPR or ACLS certifications may be required in lieu of or in addition to BLS depending on department.)
  • Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to rights of patient/significant other, as identified within the institution.
  • Demonstrates awareness and application of safety issues as identified within the institution.
  • Demonstrates awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and departmental functioning. Strives to manage situations in a manner, which minimizes risk to the patient and the institution.
  • Demonstrates competency in selected psychomotor skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, non-verbal and written methods.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations related to medication administration and equipment calibration.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care as defined within the scope of the state’s nurse practice act.
  • Performs assessment/data collection in an ongoing and systematic manner.
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.
  • Formulates a prioritized and goal directed plan of care which is based on patient's presenting problems and projected outcomes.
  • Performs efficiently in emergent patient situations following established standard of care.
  • Practices effective problem identification and resolution as a method of sound decision making.
  • Seeks validation of knowledge base, skill level, and decision making and asks for guidance in areas of question.
  • Greets patients and prepares them for provider examination.
  • Instructs patient and family regarding planned procedure, medications, collection of samples/tests and treatment instructions.
  • Functions to establish priorities of patient care based on essential patient needs and available unit resources of time, personnel, equipment and supplies.
  • Prepares equipment and aids provider or other staff during treatment, examination and testing of patients.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of the health care process in meeting outcomes.
  • Documents in patient and department records in a timely, accurate and concise manner according to department and organizational standards and expectations.
  • Adheres to staffing and scheduling practices which includes requirement to take call, and live/or be able to respond to the hospital within 30 min. of notification for all on-call cases.
  • Demonstrates an awareness of self-responsibility for own actions, follows appropriate reporting structures, utilizes effective communication methods and skills, and formulates positive working relationships with all health care customers.
  • Participates in system wide/department patient care quality improvement activities as well as standards development.
  • Maintains knowledge of current practice issues related to the field of gastroenterology.
  • Participates in development and attainment of system wide/department hospital goals.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and complies with corporate compliance.
  • Demonstrates cost effectiveness in the use of supplies and equipment.
  • Attends regularly scheduled meeting and participates in committees as requested.
  • Participates in clinical education activities.
  • Assist in education of new staff members and nursing students.
  • Complies with all policies, standards, mandatory training and requirements of Stormont Vail Health.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
