About The Position

Assumes responsibility and accountability for patients undergoing diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization procedures. Provides professional nursing care including assessment, medication administration, moderate sedation, hemodynamic monitoring, and procedural support while assisting physicians using sterile technique. Performs duties during scheduled hours and participates in Cath Lab on-call coverage for emergent and urgent cases. Nursing practice is guided by Jean Watson's Theory of Human Caring and the Stormont Vail Health Professional Practice Model.

Requirements

  • Experience in Cardiac Catheterization Lab, critical care, emergency, or procedural nursing Required
  • Demonstrates competency in acute care nursing psychomotor skills. (Required proficiency)
  • Demonstrates knowledge of patient safety, legal, and ethical standards of nursing practice. (Required proficiency)
  • Effectively communicates using verbal, written, and non-verbal methods. (Required proficiency)
  • Performs accurate medication-related mathematical calculations. (Required proficiency)
  • Registered Nurse - KSBN A multistate license with the ability to practice within the State of Kansas is also accepted. Required
  • Basic Life Support - BLS May be required depending on the department within 90 days of hire date.
  • Other RQI's maybe required depending on the department, within 90 days of hire date.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct nursing care in accordance with the Kansas Nurse Practice Act.
  • Performs patient assessment and continuous monitoring before, during, and after diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization procedures and peripheral arteriograms.
  • Administers medications, including moderate sedation, per physician orders and policy.
  • Assists physicians during cardiac catheterization, coronary intervention, structural heart, and other invasive cardiovascular and peripheral procedures utilizing sterile technique.
  • Monitors cardiac rhythm, hemodynamic status, and patient response throughout procedures and recovery.
  • Recognizes and responds to changes in patient condition, arrhythmias, or procedural complications.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to develop, implement, and evaluate care plans.
  • Documents nursing assessments, interventions, medications, procedural events, and patient response accurately.
  • Provides patient and family education related to procedures, recovery, and discharge instructions.
  • Participates in Cath Lab on-call rotation for emergent STEMI and other urgent cardiovascular and peripheral procedures and is required to respond and report to the hospital within 30 minutes of callback.
  • Demonstrates professional nursing practice guided by Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring.
  • Promotes effective communication and a respectful, collaborative work environment.
  • Precepts and mentors staff and students as assigned.
  • Participates in shared governance, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
