About The Position

Under direct supervision, prepares selected patients and equipment for physical therapy services, assists in administering treatments, observes patients during treatments, reports status changes to a therapist, and orders department supplies, ensuring sufficient stock.

Requirements

HS Diploma or GED
Knowledge and understanding of standard patient care and health care system policies and procedures.
Skill in demonstrating excellent customer service
Skill in oral and written communication
Ability to identify and report changes in patient's condition or equipment malfunctions to supervisor
Ability to organize and prioritize workload
Basic skill in computers/ Microsoft Office
Eligible to successfully train in EMR within access granted
Skills in self time management and organizing workspace
Effective oral and written communication
Basic knowledge of medical terminology and/or anatomy or ability to learn the same
Eligible to successfully demonstrate use of vital signs devices
Current BLS CPR certification

3 months healthcare experience preferred

Responsibilities

Assists with gait and ambulation, functional activities, transfers, routine follow-up of specific exercises, and application of hot or cold packs under the direct supervision of a therapist or an Occupational Therapist Assistant.
Assists a physical therapist assistant when more than one individual is required to ensure the safety and welfare of the patient during ambulation, transfers, or functional activities.
Performs room prepping and equipment setup without direct supervision.
Transports patients to and from treatment areas.
Preps patient room or treatment space in accordance with therapy ready standards.
Encourages, guides, and helps recurring therapy patients to prepare for therapy sessions.
Assists patients with personal hygiene.
Keeps track of ADL supplies and DME.
Cleans and maintains exercise and DME equipment.
Assists with department errands or small projects as assigned.
Takes patient vitals.
Notifies nursing units of inpatient treatment times.
Performs office duties as needed, including faxing, copying, printing, and scanning.
Performs and presents needed audits for LMS metrics.
Assists in taking calls from patients, physicians, GBMC staff, and monitors voicemail.
Assists in maintaining departmental inventories and searching for DME equipment throughout the hospital.
Retrieves supplies for patients as requested in a manner that supports infection control standards.
Observes billing standards for supplies.
Reinforces patient practice of therapist-assigned activity and patient transfers.
Guards Falls Risk patients when walking.
Observes and reports any apparent issues or refers patients to a therapist to answer questions about their condition.
