About The Position

Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Austin is undergoing significant expansion, including the development of a new cardiac catheterization lab, expanded imaging services, and a new breast imaging and mammography center. To support this growth, they are hiring ahead of phased openings to build and prepare teams. This role offers a unique opportunity to be part of a growing program, helping shape workflows, build strong team culture, and support the launch of new services in a dynamic and evolving environment. The position is for a full-time Registered Nurse on the Main Nursing Unit, working nights (7 PM-7 AM). The unit has 24 beds and serves Medical Surgical, Orthopedics, Intermediate Care, and Critical Care patients. The ideal candidate must have at least 2 years of ICU experience and be willing to take assignments across Med/Surg, ICU, IMC, and post-recovery as needed. Requirements

  • Graduated from an Accredited Program with a specialized field of study in nursing.
  • RN license.
  • BLS certification or obtain within 30 days of starting.
  • At least 2 years of ICU experience.
  • Willingness to take Med/Surg, ICU, IMC, and post recovery assignments as needed.
  • Deep understanding of nursing and patient care standards, as well as procedures.
  • Knowledge of nursing laws, rules, standards, and guidelines in your area.
  • Understanding of hospital procedures and rules.
  • Proficiency in medical terms, focusing on health, disease prevention, management, common meds, and their side effects.
  • Respect for medical and professional nursing ethics and patient privacy rights.
  • Exceptional communication skills, allowing for clear expression of thoughts both verbally and in writing.
  • Positive social skills to facilitate interactions with a diverse range of parties.
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities, driving effective critical thinking.
  • Basic computer skills, encompassing areas such as Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee patient care using a professional practice model.
  • Conduct patient assessments, recognizing health issues.
  • Create care plans and assess patient responses.
  • Secure patient travel.
  • Understand patient needs in healthcare and help patients prevent issues.
  • Follow the Texas Nursing Practice Act and delegate tasks based on condition and team competencies.
  • Conduct detailed clinical assessments and prioritize patient and family needs.
  • Create, implement, and evaluate care plans, adjusting them to reach desired outcomes.
  • Build relationships, manage discomfort, and maintain professionalism in therapeutic connections with patients and families.
  • Create care plans reflecting values to aid in resolving issues.
  • Educate patients, families, nurses, and community members, empowering them with knowledge for better healthcare choices.
  • Assess and document learning needs regularly.
  • Work with colleagues and the community to create a care plan.
  • Delegate tasks carefully and follow up promptly.
  • Use different strategies for problem-solving with patients, families, and staff.
  • Recognize limitations and prioritize safety, effectiveness, and efficiency in patient care planning and delivery.
  • Achieve goals through teamwork, recognize contributions, and commit to growth.
