About The Position

Northwestern Medicine has an exciting opportunity for either a motivated Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to work with our Palliative Medicine team. This APP will work collaboratively within an interprofessional team of physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and social workers to provide comprehensive, compassionate patient care. Participates in rotating inpatient coverage and shared call responsibilities, advocates for patients and families, collaborates with the broader care team, and assists with goals-of-care discussions and complex care planning. This role include both inpatient and ambulatory responsibility. Schedule: Monday-Friday Flexible scheduling options may be available, including four 10-hour days per week or 9-hour days with one scheduled day off each pay period. Inpatient service weeks are typically structured as 8-hour shifts. Shared call coverage Monday through Sunday approximately every 6 to 7 weeks. Two scheduled days off following each call week. Inpatient census averages 20 to 30 patients, shared among three providers. Outpatient practice with an average of 6 to 7 patients per day, scheduled in 60-minute appointment slots. Locations: Practice provides coverage across Lake Forest, Grayslake, and Glenview locations, with providers typically rotating between two primary sites, including Lake Forest and one additional regional location.

Requirements

Master’s degree from an accredited school/college of nursing OR master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program
Acute care certification required for APRNs (inpatient experience as an NP will be considered in lieu of acute care certification)
Current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois. Current license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois. Certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by a national certifying body as approved by the Illinois Department of Regulation APRN Board. Once licensed may apply for a controlled substance license and DEA number OR Master’s degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program/Current license as a Physician Assistant in the State of Illinois. Privileged and credentialed through the Northwestern Medicine Medical Staff Office (MSO)
Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation – BLS, issued by the American Heart Association

Responsibilities

Conducts comprehensive appraisals of patients' health status by taking health histories and performing physical examinations in clinical area.
