About The Position

Mayo Clinic is seeking an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant (NP PA) to join their Neurosurgery team in Arizona. This role involves working cooperatively with physicians, NPs, PAs, nurses, and other allied health personnel to deliver care to Neurosurgical patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The position requires the NP PA to be present on the hospital campus 100% of the time, with a mix of floor duty, clinic duty, OR duty, and on-call responsibilities. Floor duty involves seeing in-patient patients and splitting the list with another APP. Clinic duty focuses on seeing post-op patients and new spine-only consults. On-call duty offers additional pay. OR duty involves acting as a first assistant in the operating room. The department utilizes the latest innovations and techniques in neurosurgery, including minimally invasive surgery, robotics, intraoperative MRI, computer-assisted brain surgery, stereotactic radiosurgery, awake brain surgery, and deep brain stimulation.

Requirements

  • Masters-prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and Nurse Practitioner program (for ACNP)
  • Current AZ RN and APRN license and certification as a ACNP (for ACNP)
  • Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program (for PA)
  • Current PA certification by NCCPA and registration as a PA by the AZ State Board of Medical Practice (for PA)
  • Current RN First Assist (RNFA) certification is required at the time of application
  • Active BLS, ACLS and RN First Assist certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross at start date
  • DEA registration required
  • Excellent verbal, written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership ability
  • Flexibility to adjust schedule to meet patient and staff needs
  • Ability to manage time and stress effectively and adapt to unpredictable situations within the patient care setting
  • Strong computer skills in an Electronic Medical Record preferred

Nice To Haves

  • 2-5 years of NPPA experience is preferred
  • New Grads will not be considered at this time

Responsibilities

  • Obtain a patient history
  • Perform a physical examination
  • Conduct a comprehensive assessment
  • Order, conduct and interpret diagnostic tests
  • Formulate a diagnostic impression
  • Develop and implement a treatment plan
  • Monitor the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions
  • Prescribe pharmacological agents and treatments and non-pharmacological therapies
  • Facilitate appropriate consultations and referrals
  • Provide counseling and education to meet patient needs
  • First assistant in OR
