Integrated Clinical Services provides quality health services for people who experience barriers to accessing care. Our vision is to provide services that are integrated and connected to promote optimal health and well being through interdisciplinary team based care. The Primary Care Division assesses need and develops services that strive to deliver timely access and promote racial equity through culturally appropriate care, health screening, and treatment of chronic illness. A primary focus of our services is on prevention, education, and shared decision making to promote well-being. Clients are seen in geographically dispersed sites throughout Multnomah County. The Acupuncturist serves as a member of the interdisciplinary team evaluating clients concerns, developing a plan of care, and providing acupuncture treatment as well as further coordination of care for clients referred for acupuncture services. In addition, the acupuncturist serves as a program specialist, working closely with clinic leadership to coordinate various aspects of the acupuncture program, including revenue, referrals, supplies, and scheduling. Requirements

  • Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Three (3) to six (6) years of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • BLS CPR Certification
  • Graduated from an acupuncture program that satisfies the standards of the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM) or an equivalent accreditation body
  • Current certification in acupuncture by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).
  • Active, unrestricted Licensed Acupuncturist, through the Oregon Medical Board

Nice To Haves

  • Five (5) years of increasingly responsible and major program development, policy analysis, or program compliance/monitoring and evaluation experience.
  • Experience working in a primary care setting and / or experience collaborating with primary care providers and healthcare workers to optimize patient care
  • Experience working in high-volume patient care settings
  • Experience in safety net or public health settings working with marginalized communities
  • Experience working with interpreters
  • Bilingual English / Spanish
  • Working knowledge of acupuncture billing, coding, and insurance coverage in Oregon (especially Oregon Medicaid) and ability to collaborate with clinic staff and leadership to ensure we are maximizing revenue
  • Experience with Electronic Health Record (EHR) to document patient care, appropriately code acupuncture encounters, and coordinate patient care
  • Comfort with care coordination and connecting clients to additional services
  • Knowledge / proficiency in acupuncture research and current evidence
  • Experience in teaching or presenting about acupuncture and traditional East Asian Medicine
  • Knowledge of (and experience coaching patients with regards to) evidence-based lifestyle changes

Responsibilities

  • Educate students, providers, staff, and patients about acupuncture services and current evidence.
  • Effectively collaborate with various teams to ensure we are maximizing reimbursement opportunities.
  • Assist clinic leadership with updating or creating policies and procedures (as needed) pertaining to the practice of acupuncture Traditional East Asian Medicine.
  • Collaborate with clinic leadership and staff to effectively integrate acupuncture and traditional East Asian medicine services into the FQHC primary care setting.
  • Design and oversight of acupuncture treatment plans as well as a full range of acupuncture services.
  • Submit client referrals and requests for acupuncture devices, materials and appliances available and commonly used by the acupuncture profession.
  • Documents information related to client care in the electronic health record including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, response to treatment, plan of care, and client education.
  • Documents appropriate coding for each client encounter.
  • Collaborates as needed with referrals, billing, and/or coding staff when clarifications or corrections are needed.
  • Timely closure of notes and management of electronic health record in-basket.
  • Provides information regarding the client consultation to other health care providers.
  • As a member of an interdisciplinary team, participates in care team meetings.
  • Work with clinic leadership and infection preventionist to ensure that infection control and other regulatory measures for acupuncture practice are in place and updated per professional standards and regulatory bodies (i.e. current version of Clean Needle Technique Manual published by Council of Colleges of Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine, OSHA, Joint Commission).
  • Work with and assist front desk staff and clinic leadership to maintain or establish consistent scheduling procedures for acupuncture as well as adjust scheduling templates.
  • Provide care with acupuncture and East Asian medicine to a diverse and medically underserved patient population. Primary conditions treated include chronic and acute pain, mental health symptoms, substance use disorders, and other related concerns. Emphasis is on integrative medicine and evidence-based care through a patient-centered, trauma-informed lens. Provide care for all ages.
  • Analyze medical history and physical findings to formulate a differential diagnosis and appropriate treatment plan with acupuncture and traditional East Asian medicine, Western medicine paradigms.
  • Set treatment plans with clients to include treatment frequency, prioritization of concerns or pains. Develop the plan with the client on how the client can communicate concerns or questions between treatment appointments.
  • Monitor the accuracy of needle placement during treatment.
  • Connect clients to clinic or other staff for insurance or payment options.
  • Coordinate patient care with other health professionals, and monitor patients for concerning symptoms that would require timely referral back to the primary care medical team.
  • Advises clients regarding evidence-based lifestyle changes including nutrition, exercise, sleeping habits, stress management, mind body techniques and other matters related to acupuncture care.
  • Provide information about the history and benefits of acupuncture to new clients, including expected results and possible responses or reactions to treatment.
  • Share information about aspects of traditional East Asian medical theory, including actions and indications for acupuncture points as relevant to the treatment plan.
