About The Position

USAA is seeking a credentialed Lead Actuary to join their Property Loss Reserving and Reserving Development team. This role involves leveraging expert, broad actuarial knowledge in at least one actuarial practice area to identify, define, and design solutions for complex problems that drive business results at the Line of Business (LOB) level. The Actuary will use advanced knowledge of Loss Reserving techniques, statistical modeling, and claims analytics to explain loss trend drivers. This position is remote eligible in the continental U.S. with occasional business travel. However, individuals residing within a 60-mile radius of a USAA office will be expected to work on-site four days per week.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree; OR 4 years of related Actuarial/business/analytical experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
8 years of Actuarial or analytical business experience + Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS) Credential held for 3 years; OR 6 years of Actuarial or analytical business experience + Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) Credential.
Demonstrated expertise with relevant actuarial, mathematical, and statistical techniques and approaches used to support fact-based decision-making.
Advanced knowledge of data analysis tools, data visualization, developing analysis queries and procedures in Python, R, SQL, SAS, BI tools or other analysis software, and relevant industry data & methods and ability to connect external insights to business problems.
Demonstrated experience communicating complex solutions and analysis to cross-functional audiences, including executive leadership.

Responsibilities

Apply deep and broad actuarial knowledge to identify, define, and design solutions to complex problems with ambiguous requirements.
Independently shape and transform all aspects of machine learning and AI for a product, including data selection, model selection, stakeholder communications, and performance monitoring.
Independently run catastrophe models for advanced ad-hoc analyses, provide guidance and training to peers for running and validating catastrophe models, and enhance current methodologies to better represent USAA’s risk.
Design and perform broad and complex actuarial analyses that produce actionable insights for company-level decision-making.
Design reserving methodology and technical platform for new products.
Utilize advanced actuarial, mathematical, or statistical techniques to augment actuarial work product, methodologies, and procedures.
Lead special actuarial projects, such as the development of new pricing methodologies or reporting tools to impact LOB-level initiatives.
Provide thought and/or technical expertise on complex topics and influence key stakeholders on business decisions.
Lead cross-functional actuarial initiatives.
Strategically partner with IT to influence the design, alignment, and implementation of technical business standards.
Manage USAA vendor relationship(s).
Assist the business unit with translating strategic objectives into tactical solutions.
Maintain current knowledge of market trends and emerging risks and proactively develop strategies, policies, and processes to address them.
Develop written communication and presentations that effectively convey data-driven solutions to broad audiences, including cross-functional executive leadership.
Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
