About The Position

Provide technical and analytical support for internal and external customers. Create, maintain, and use spreadsheets and/or database tools to effectively calculate, analyze and report results for a variety of actuarial related processes. Conduct research and analysis of information in order to address calculation issues as needed. Support other special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Possess mathematical ability, strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Familiarity with Visual Basic and macros desirable. Demonstrate skill in Excel, Access, and Word
  • Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to develop basic knowledge of relevant insurance industry and motivation to learn Sammons Financial Group Companies products and Actuarial related concepts
  • Demonstrate ability to research and provide insights
  • Ability to work both individually and as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage projects
  • Demonstrate natural sense of curiosity, strong problem solving skills and ability to multi-task

  • Self-motivated, and ability to work independently and effectively under deadline pressures
  • Criminal background check required.
  • If the position is in the SIG business unit, Annuity New Business Securities team, or if we are holding securities licenses, FINRA regulations require fingerprinting for this position; if we are holding securities licenses, a credit check will also be required. Management reserves the right to determine and approve incumbent suitability for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Business or equivalent Preferred
  • Minimum 2-3 years' work experience in data analytics; background in life insurance or annuities Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Develop thorough understanding of the actuarial-related concepts and requirements, and relevant business processes needed. Ensure product features, reporting requirements, calculations and controls are properly incorporated into the tools that are built to support analytical and reporting processes as assigned.
  • Maintain, develop or enhance spreadsheet, software and/or database tools used to manage, analyze and report data. Ensure work is accurate and efficient using existing procedures. Document tools and processes.
  • Gather and prepare data and review for reasonableness. Generate reports, conduct analysis and reasonableness checks, and communicate results to key stakeholders.
  • Create, maintain, and enhance calculation spreadsheets used to validate or supplement actuarial-related or system-generated values. Utilizing spreadsheets, accountable for detailed and complex manual calculations to provide actuarial, product and/or policy support to other departments.
  • Participate as a representative of the Department during relevant meetings. Be able to communicate technical actuarial information or related processes to team members.
  • Recommend and automate departmental processes to improve efficiency and accuracy as assigned.
  • Participate in and/or complete special projects or initiatives as required.
  • Plan and prioritize work in accordance with broader team or department objectives and priorities. Complete projects on time and with high standards and accuracy.
  • Develop and maintain effective business relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
