About The Position

Wawanesa's Commercial Pricing team is growing, and we are hiring experienced actuaries at all levels to support our ambitious, profitable growth objectives. We are hiring actuaries across multiple levels: Actuarial Analyst or Senior Actuarial Analyst, Actuarial Consultant or Senior Actuarial Consultant, and Actuarial Expert. These roles will support Commercial Lines Pricing, including Commercial Auto, Property & Casualty (P&C), and Farm, as well as Pricing Excellence. In this role, you will apply actuarial and insurance expertise to develop and enhance commercial rating structures, improve pricing sophistication, and support portfolio management across Commercial Lines. Depending on level, you will contribute to or lead pricing initiatives, collaborate closely with underwriting and business partners, and support the delivery of strategic Commercial Pricing priorities. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related discipline.
  • Progress toward actuarial designation under the CAS or CIA, aligned with level.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail when working with complex datasets.
  • Proficiency with Excel and actuarial or analytical tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain actuarial and pricing concepts to non technical audiences.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively, build trust across teams, and proactively identify and raise issues.

Nice To Haves

  • Actuarial experience in pricing is an asset.
  • Experience with Commercial Auto, Commercial P&C, Farm, or similar commercial products is an asset.
  • Experience with SQL, R, Python, or similar languages is an asset.
  • Experience with pricing tools (e.g. Radar, Emblem, Classifier) and/or machine learning techniques is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Apply actuarial and insurance expertise to develop, maintain, and enhance Commercial rating plans for property, liability, farm, and/or commercial automobile portfolios.
  • Research, extract, and analyze complex internal and external data, while assessing data quality.
  • Support and execute rate reviews that enhance segmentation and pricing sophistication.
  • Support the achievement of Commercial financial goals through accurate and timely pricing analysis.
  • Identify, investigate, and address complex commercial pricing and portfolio performance issues.
  • Collaborate with underwriting, product, and other business partners to align pricing solutions with strategic objectives.
  • Evaluate pricing methodologies and processes and recommend opportunities for improvement.
  • Support or lead process improvement initiatives and the development of flexible, extensible pricing and reporting solutions.
  • Contribute to data, modelling, and reporting foundations that underpin improvements in pricing sophistication and portfolio management.
  • Contribute to or lead projects from end to end, including documentation and implementation of final pricing solutions.
  • Provide regular project updates and build strong working relationships across Commercial Pricing teams and stakeholders.
  • Commit to continuous professional development and progression through actuarial exams.
  • Review peer work and provide constructive feedback on reasonableness, completeness, and accuracy.
  • At senior levels, mentor actuarial colleagues and provide technical guidance within Commercial Pricing.
