About The Position

The Actuary professional community at TD utilizes an astute combination of analytical skills, business knowledge, and an understanding of human behavior to navigate complex risk factors in business and banking. Actuary roles help strategically plan future business success and fulfill specialized functions in areas such as pricing, underwriting, insurance, reinsurance, and risk management. The Budgeting and Forecasting team is part of the Corporate Actuarial department. In this role, the candidate will partake in the main responsibilities of the team, including the preparation of budgets and forecasts, reporting on actual vs. planned projections, and implementing risk mitigation and controls.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial science or other quantitative area of study
  • Working towards obtaining Associateship with the Casualty Actuarial Society, Canadian Institute of Actuaries or equivalent
  • Strong analytical/technical skills
  • Strong judgment and analytical mind
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to anticipate the results of an analysis or a report
  • Thoroughness and quality of work
  • Initiative, creativity, and critical thinking in work
  • Work experience with MS Excel

Responsibilities

  • Provide an estimate of future expected loss ratios for a five-year time horizon using appropriate assumptions and methods.
  • Project expected claims costs, considering future changes in product offers and product changes, to ensure profit or growth objectives are not significantly impacted.
  • Include an estimate of future reserve variations to project investment returns.
  • Project future fiscal year claims expenses, which serve as the main input to Financial Condition Testing (FCT).
  • Build meaningful reports on actual vs. planned premium projections, claims experience (frequency and severity), and monthly financial results to provide insightful information for management decision-making.
  • Implement risk mitigation, risk controls, and processes, policies, and procedures for the team.
  • Support other Corporate Actuarial teams during peak times.
