About The Position

The Activity Specialist is responsible for planning and facilitating engaging, high-quality enrichment activities that inspire creativity, build new skills, and support positive youth development. Specialists lead programming in one or more content areas, including STEM, visual and performing arts, dance, music, literacy, leadership development, health and wellness, sports, technology, financial literacy, culinary arts, environmental education, and other enrichment opportunities aligned with participant interests and program goals. Working collaboratively with the After-School Director, Group Leaders, and the Activity Specialist develops and delivers hands-on, age-appropriate lessons that complement academic learning while promoting social-emotional growth, teamwork, and student engagement. This role is responsible for creating a safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive learning environment that encourages youth to explore new interests, develop confidence, and build lifelong skills. All programming should align with Replications, Inc.'s mission and quality standards, as well as applicable DYCD COMPASS and SONYC program requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Fine Arts, STEM, Sports Management, Literacy, Performing Arts, or Youth Development preferred, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
  • DOE Fingerprinted
  • Statewide Central Registry clearance
  • Department of Health clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated professional experience, training, or specialized expertise in the assigned enrichment area (e.g., STEM, arts, literacy, leadership development, dance, or athletics) with the ability to translate subject knowledge into engaging youth-centered activities.
  • Experience working with K–12 in an educational, recreational, or community-based settings (preferably within after-school).
  • Proven ability to design and lead structured activities, deliver engaging instruction.
  • Experience with positive behavior management to manage groups of students effectively.
  • Familiarity with DYCD COMPASS and SONYC program standards
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse youth populations
  • Create learning experiences that are culturally responsive, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement structured enrichment activities within a designated content area.
  • Develop sequenced lesson plans that build skills, encourage creativity, and promote student engagement.
  • Deliver hands‑on learning experiences aligned with DYCD COMPASS and SONYC program standards.
  • Create and maintain a safe, inclusive environment that supports student exploration and skill development.
  • Coordinate with Group Leaders and program staff to ensure cohesive and well‑aligned programming.
  • Support students’ social‑emotional growth using positive youth development practices.
  • Manage classroom behavior and ensure active participation from all students.
  • Modify activities to address diverse learning styles, abilities, and developmental levels.
  • Track student participation, maintain activity materials, and assist with required documentation.
  • Attend staff meetings, program planning sessions, and professional development activities.
  • Contribute to a positive program culture that reflects Replications’ standards for quality, consistency, and student impact.
