About The Position

Partnership with Children provides critical counseling, school-wide services, and family and community outreach in high-poverty, New York City public schools so students can reach their full potential. The Beacon Program at PS 194 is an after-school program dedicated to ensuring that every child has the cognitive, social, and emotional skills to be their authentic selves, to develop self-sufficiency, and to build the foundation for strong, supportive relationships. With a curriculum focused on academic enrichment, community, cultural enrichment, the arts, recreation, and character education, the Beacon Program at PS 194 will reinforce learning in a safe and healthy environment. This role facilitates implementation of program activities for school-aged after-school program participants while creating a nurturing environment that fosters the creativity and educational advancement of the children.

Requirements

  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years in specialization (college students currently pursuing degree-level work are encouraged to apply).
  • A minimum of one year of experience overseeing and managing groups of children.
  • Must have a strong interest in working with children and be sensitive to social-emotional needs of students.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with program staff, school personnel, parents
  • Must have excellent communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain medical and clearance for SCR, DOH and DOE.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience creating lesson plans preferred.
  • Specifically in the field of STEM
  • Candidates qualified to lead instruction in more than one activity are also preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Create a supportive and nurturing group environment.
  • Ensure the safety of all the children.
  • Facilitate programmatic elements for the group.
  • Provide age-appropriate activities according to the program activity schedule and class.
  • Develop and execute fun and engaging lesson plans (activities) in discipline area (STEM, dance, vocal, cooking, creative movement, sports, visual arts and/or other physical or arts activities).
  • Prepare materials and hand-outs for lessons.
  • Create and coordinate student performances for showcases.
  • Attend team and group supervision meetings.
  • Attend professional development trainings as required by the agency and program contract.
  • Other duties as assigned.
