About The Position

Goddard Riverside Community Center (Goddard Riverside) is seeking an Activity Specialist for their Beacon After School program. This role involves working with groups of children, divided by grade, in areas of expertise such as Art, Coding, Dance, Drama, Games/Sports, Music, or Storytelling. The Activity Specialist will help children express themselves creatively and will collaborate with Group Leaders and other staff to support the social-emotional growth of the children. The program aims to provide a positive and creative environment for the social and intellectual development of all participants, utilizing Group Work practice.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • At least two (2) years of experience working with children in groups.
  • Must have the ability lead activity and to work collaboratively.
  • Must have a sense of humor and a passion for youth development.
  • Must be able to pass a Background Check including Fingerprint Screen
  • Create and able to implement plans for group participation.
  • Effectively supervise children.

Nice To Haves

  • Some college preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Foster a learning environment that stimulates children’s creative growth and development.
  • Demonstrate professionalism & leadership and collaborate with different groups of teams.
  • Maintain sound supervision and always ensuring the safety of program participants.
  • Incorporate the theme into various projects.
  • Assist in delivering educational, recreational, and cultural programs to develop community and explore the school year theme through a performance or display project.
  • Encourage program participation and social skills development.
  • Teach and supervise activity in given field.
  • Fulfill administrative requirements (prepare calendars, follow schedules, assist in community events, maintain attendance records, complete incident reports and progress reports).
  • Enforce program rules, identify & respond to camper behavior issues, and carry out corrective action when needed by identifying and seeking to resolve conflicts and behavioral problems.
  • Know and enforce ALL emergency procedures and follow all safety guidelines associated with all program areas.
  • Attend staff training, weekly meetings and supervision meetings.
  • Other duties as required and assigned by Program Director, ADED and/or DED.
