About The Position

An Activity Specialist/Saturday Night Lights will assist in promoting growth, leadership, and positive self-image in all middle and/or high school youths at Grand Street Settlement. An SNL coach will also provide competent supervision, develop and facilitate curriculum/activities such as sportsmanship, workout and drills, tournaments and others sporting events.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required
  • At least 1 year of youth development-related experience, including developing lesson plans, facilitating classroom activities, and classroom management.
  • Candidate must complete NYSDOH Fingerprinting Screening, NYS Clearance Review Background Check, SEL, 3 Reference Checks, Physical w/updated TB test

Nice To Haves

  • some college or college degree preferred
  • Valid CPR/AED and First Aid certification through a recognized accrediting body preferred
  • The ideal candidate must be able to build rapport with youth and create a positive, inclusive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 4 hours of structured basketball training and activities for middle school youth and High School youth participants
  • Create a culture of positive group cohesiveness and problem-solve directly with youth in groups.
  • Provide competent supervision of a group of children and participate in activities and trips; provide and maintain a safe and professional working environment.
  • Design and implement curriculum and facilitate activities based on the given themes.
  • Work collaboratively with co-workers, cultivate a culture of professionalism, and act as a role model for youth participants.
  • Come ready to work with a positive attitude and support and encourage youth.
  • Attend professional development and training as assigned by supervisors.
  • Know and follow daily schedules, protocols, procedures, safety drills, and safety plans.
  • Maintain adequate supplies in first aid and safety kits daily.
  • Responsible for documenting incidents and communicating incidents with supervisors and/or parents and guardians.
  • Coordinate community relations efforts and participate in outreach activities.
  • Assist in the planning, organization, and execution of community events.
  • Maintain accurate records of youth participation, progress, and other relevant information.
  • Supervise and evaluate youth workers, SYEP, WLGAmeriCorps, PS, and interns.
  • Clean, organize, and maintain workspace and shared spaces throughout the facility.
  • Other assignments as required by the program director.
