About The Position

The Activities and Residential Care Coordinator is responsible for the development, coordination, and implementation of structured therapeutic, recreational, and skill-building activities for individuals in a Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF). This role ensures programming is aligned with individualized treatment plans and supports emotional regulation, social development, and overall therapeutic engagement. In addition, this role coordinates all resident medical, dental, and psychiatric appointments and ensures safe, compliant transportation and supervision. The coordinator collaborates closely with clinical, nursing, and operations teams to support continuity of care and maintain compliance with South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (SCDHHS), Department of Social Services (DSS), and all applicable regulatory standards.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with children or adolescents in a behavioral health, residential, or special education setting.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and eligibility to operate company vehicles.
• Successful completion of: Criminal background check (state and federal, as applicable), Drug screening, Health screening/physical (as required), Verification of licensure and credentials.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed care and therapeutic activity planning.
• Ability to engage individuals with diverse behavioral and communication needs.
• Strong organizational and coordination skills.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills across interdisciplinary teams.
• Basic computer skills for documentation and scheduling.
• Ability to remain active, alert, and responsive throughout the shift.
• Ability to safely perform crisis intervention techniques as trained.
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
• Ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to safely transport and supervise individuals in community settings.
• Adhere to all company policies, Code of Conduct, and regulatory requirements
• Maintain all required certifications and credentials (CPR, First Aid, crisis intervention, and required training).
• Complete all required training within mandated timelines.

Nice To Haves

• associate or bachelor’s degree in human services, recreation therapy, psychology, or related field preferred.
• Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, or trauma histories preferred.
• Familiarity with non-verbal communication strategies (e.g., PECS, AAC devices) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and facilitate structured therapeutic and recreational programming aligned with individualized treatment plans and active treatment requirements.
• Design activities that support emotional regulation, coping skills, social interaction, and skill development.
• Adapt programming to meet the needs of individuals with behavioral health conditions, developmental disabilities, trauma histories, and communication challenges.
• Utilize trauma-informed and person-centered approaches in all programming.
• Maintain and communicate a monthly and weekly activity schedule that ensures consistent therapeutic engagement across all shifts.
• Ensure activities are inclusive, developmentally appropriate, and aligned with clinical goals.
• Monitor and document individual participation, engagement, and behavioral responses during activities.
• Coordinate and schedule all medical, dental, vision, and psychiatric appointments in collaboration with nursing and clinical teams.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date appointment logs and ensure timely communication of schedules to relevant staff.
• Ensure all required documentation, consents, and information are prepared prior to appointments.
• Communicate appointment outcomes and follow-up needs to the interdisciplinary team.
• Safely transport individuals to and from off-site appointments and approved activities in accordance with company policies and state regulations.
• Ensure continuous supervision and safety of individuals during transportation and off-site activities.
• Conduct and document vehicle safety checks, ensuring compliance with agency and regulatory standards.
• Maintain vehicle cleanliness, safety equipment, and required documentation (e.g., logs, mileage, inspections).
• Ensure adherence to all transportation policies, including use of seat belts, supervision ratios, and emergency procedures.
• Complete accurate, timely, and compliant documentation, including: Activity attendance and participation logs, Progress notes (as applicable), Appointment tracking and logs, Incident reports and General Event Reporting.
• Ensure documentation supports treatment goals and reflects active treatment participation.
• Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA and confidentiality standards.
• Demonstrate knowledge of and compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations governing PRTFs.
• Serve as a mandatory reporter of abuse, neglect, exploitation, or mistreatment in accordance with South Carolina law.
• Immediately report suspected incidents to appropriate internal leadership and follow required reporting procedures.
• Cooperate fully with internal and external investigations, audits, and inspections.
• Ensure protection of individual rights, including dignity, privacy, and freedom from abuse or restraint misuse.
• Collaborate with clinical, nursing, and operations staff to ensure alignment of programming with treatment plans.
• Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and provide input on individual engagement, behavior, and progress.
• Communicate effectively with Shift Supervisors, Lead DSPs, and DSPs to ensure consistent implementation of programming.
• Ensure all activities are conducted in a safe and structured environment.
• Identify and address safety risks related to activities, transportation, or equipment.
• Ensure appropriate supplies and materials are available for programming.
• Research and implement new programming ideas that enhance engagement and therapeutic outcomes.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support facility operations and resident care.
