About The Position

The VELA after school program seeks Activity leaders and assistants to provide fun and engaging activities to 7th and 8th grade students. Candidates must be energetic, engaging & ensure a safe, dynamic and engaging learning environment for students. The Activity Leader should have some expertise in the activity they are leading and knowledge of the developmental needs of their students. Activity Leader needs to be aware of the required grant outcomes.

Requirements

• Highly skilled in group facilitation
• Demonstrated success in experience working with youth
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Highly adaptive, with exceptional problem solving skills
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with diverse personalities
• Experienced in maintaining a positive and professional attitude even when under stress
• Knowledge of MS Office, especially Word, Outlook and Excel

Nice To Haves

• Some expertise in the activity they are leading
• Knowledge of the developmental needs of their students
• Bilingual candidates are a plus!

Responsibilities

• Provide fun and engaging activities to 7th and 8th grade students.
• Ensure a safe, dynamic and engaging learning environment for students.
• Lead activities such as art, music, dance, team building games, survival skills, cooking, sports, drama, robotics, hip hop, social justice, yoga, fitness and mindfulness.
• Be aware of the required grant outcomes.
