Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in occupational therapy, art, music, recreational therapy, humanities, or movement therapy.
• Certification or licensure by the state of Illinois and/or national governing body in the following areas: art, occupational, recreation, or music therapy.
• One (1) year of related experience, with a knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques, and understanding of mental illness preferred.
• Successful completion of CPR Certification and successful completion of CPI prior to assisting with a restraining procedure and within 30 days of employment.

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for observing and applying sound judgment in patients' physical and mental conditions/needs.
• Document and communicate changes in patients' appearance, behavior, and ability to work towards treatment plan goals.
• Provide an assessment of psychosocial/leisure and recreational skills development/deficiency.
• Assist patients in achieving their optimum level of independent functioning.
• Plan and implement activity therapy for the assigned patient case load within the facility.
• Model and teach patients appropriate social, coping, and stress-management techniques.
• Contribute to treatment plans with specific goals and therapeutic interventions.
