About The Position

This is an exciting time to join Catholic Eldercare! We are seeking an Activity Coordinator for our Memory Care and Transitional Care Unit at our Skilled Nursing Facility. We have a great Therapeutic Recreation Team and as we grow our community with new residents, we want to provide holistic engagement opportunities for them. Catholic Eldercare is a community of residential facilities in Northeast Minneapolis offering services in assisted living, independent living, skilled nursing, memory care, transitional care and adult day services.

Requirements

  • Ability to pass NetStudy 2.0 background screening.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in Activities, Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation Therapy, Life Enrichment, Volunteer Services, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of dementia care and effective engagement techniques for residents with cognitive impairments.
  • Experience working with older adults, preferably in a senior living, nursing home, healthcare, or community-based setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage residents, families, volunteers, and staff.
  • Ability to organize, coordinate, and facilitate group activities and events.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to complete resident documentation accurately and timely.

Responsibilities

  • Books all large group monthly pet programming and entertainment at the care center
  • Ensures check requests are filled out and signed to ensure payment to all event vendors
  • Orients new volunteers to their specific role once they have gone through organization training
  • Works with Volunteer Coordinator to communicate volunteer needs and status
  • Works with LE Team to best understand volunteer needs to work with VC to meet the needs.
  • Facilitates or assists in group activities as agreed upon
  • Provides one-to-one visits and sensory stimulation.
  • Observes and reports residents’ symptoms, reactions and changes. Detects, corrects or reports situations that have the possibility of causing accidents or injuries to residents or others.
  • Must be able to transport residents to group activities safely.
  • Catholic Eldercare is committed to recognition and effective management of each resident’s pain and suffering. Every employee (within the scope of their position) is responsible to seek relief for any resident observed to be in pain (physical, spiritual or otherwise) through therapeutic intervention (hand holding, physical touch, acknowledgement of discomfort) and reporting the discomfort to the appropriate staff.
  • Perform all duties in a manner that is consistent with quality standards, infection control, and safety measures, which includes using Standard Precautions, at all times.
  • Participate in in-service programs, mandatory training, and attend meetings in the interest of improving skills, acquiring knowledge, and meeting state and federal regulations.
  • Remain current on tuberculosis screening.
  • Work as a team member and adapt to changes in work assignments to meet resident and/or staffing needs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
