About The Position

The Activity Assistant I position at Rosewood Court Residential Care is responsible for providing activities appropriate to the varying levels of Dementia, such as setting up entertainment for the residents, decorating, gardening, cooking, sewing, assisting with outings and other duties as listed below. The Activities Assistant I will always treat the residents of Rosewood Court Resident Care Facility with respect and dignity and be an advocate for the resident’s needs. In representing Rosewood Court Resident Care Facility’s, the Activity Assistant I must exhibit a professional, caring attitude at all times. In keeping with Rosewood Court Resident Care Facility’s philosophy of care, the Residents’ needs are of primary concern. All issues related to the Residents and Staff of Rosewood Court Resident Care Facility are to be treated confidentially.

Requirements

Have completed a minimum of six (6) hours of job-related pre-service orientation.
Must have a first aid card.
You must complete twelve (12) hours of in-service training annually.
1 year experience working with Dementia, typing and other office skills recommended.
Must have the ability to read, write and understand English.
Highly motivated toward providing excellence in care to seniors.
Belief in a positive, active, and professional attitude in communicating with residents, staff members, consultants, physicians, case managers and family members.
Team oriented.
Daily Tasks will include standing, walking, stooping, bending, stretching and lifting and moving/assisting residents and equipment as necessary.
Must be in good health and be able to carry out all necessary functions of the position.

CPR is recommended but not required.

Responsibilities

Provide activities throughout the day appropriate to the varying levels of Dementia (High functioning, moderate functioning and low functioning) that corresponds with the resident’s preferences.
Set up dining room for evening meal.
Directing our residents to the dining room at mealtime and assist with feeding.
Visit residents who do not like to be out of their rooms and offer appropriate activities.
Provide snacks three times daily to the residents who would like them.
Take residents for walks outside the facility (weather permitting).
Create and display activities calendar for each month. (Before the new month starts).
Assist with outside entertainment.
Assist with outings outside the facility.
Provide activities for volunteers to do with the residents.
Help decorate the facility with holiday decorations.
Assist with watering and weeding flowers/garden in the courtyard.
Chart resident’s activities and snacks they participated in.
Inform residents of their rights (see attached Resident Rights).
Assist in Monthly Resident Council meetings. (take notes for records)
Oversee the washing/drying of clothing protectors after each meal.
Redirect residents with behaviors from the Nurses Station area.
Assist the Activity Director with activities assessments and care plans.
Manage activities in absence of the Activity Director.
Assist with scheduling of activities staff.
Other duties as assigned.
