About The Position

The Activities Therapy Assistant conducts group activities that are therapeutic and focused on patient needs. This role involves interviewing patients and their families to gather leisure and developmental histories, maintaining contact with patients to monitor responses to services, and identifying problem areas. The assistant will also liaise with local community agencies to develop interventions, participate in patient treatment planning, document case records, and communicate significant patient data to the treatment team. Additionally, the role requires providing emotional and cognitive patient care in a therapeutic and safe manner.

Requirements

  • Minimal High School Diploma/GED
  • Minimal 2+ Years Experience working with functionally challenged individuals if they do not meet the Educational Preference
  • Crisis Response Training
  • CPR certification
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patient, family, peers and medical personnel.
  • Requires emotional stability and resilience.
  • Must be adaptable to change and demonstrate foresight.
  • Ability to take initiative, be decisive, and project a professional demeanor.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer Bachelor's Degree (psych, social service field, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Conducts group activities that are therapeutic and focused on patient needs.
  • Interviews patients, their families, and others to obtain leisure and developmental histories.
  • Maintains regular contact with each assigned patient to monitor responses to services and identify problem areas.
  • Obtains information from family members about patient's past response to treatment or problem areas in work, custody, school, and leisure activities.
  • Reports significant information and recommendations to treatment team members.
  • Liaises with local community agencies to develop appropriate interventions based on patient needs.
  • Participates in patient treatment planning and documents case records.
  • Communicates abnormal variances of emotional and/or cognitive data (tearful, hallucinating, etc.) to appropriate staff.
  • Provides emotional and/or cognitive patient care in an appropriate, therapeutic, and safe manner.
