About The Position

AMIkids WINGS Piedmont is a female-only residential program with a 20-bed capacity, serving adolescent girls. The program is designed to address the unique needs of girls in the juvenile justice system, recognizing that they often have mental health challenges, histories of trauma, and have experienced abuse. The Activities Instructor is responsible for implementing and coordinating experiential and recreational instruction for students, including indoor, outdoor, and off-site activities. This role involves supervising student activities, teaching and coaching assigned activities, maintaining activity plans, and ensuring appropriate materials and equipment are available. The instructor will also evaluate students' knowledge and abilities, maintain records of progress, and ensure all relevant certifications are current. Safety, supervision, advising, counseling, and role modeling for students are key aspects of this position, along with adherence to all contract and state educational guidelines. The role may also involve participation in day trips, special activities, facility maintenance, and student transportation.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Four (4) years related experience (e.g., aquatics instruction, ropes course, etc.).
  • Maintain relevant industry certifications.
  • Attend and maintain CPR and First Aid certification by nationally recognized organization.
  • Attend and maintain appropriate crisis intervention and physical restraint training and certification as defined by state and contract requirements.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Lifeguard certification and Challenge Course instructor certification.
  • Position requires driving on a regular basis.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and coordinate experiential and recreational instruction for students.
  • Supervise student activities as required.
  • Teach and coach students in assigned activities.
  • Maintain activity plans for the area of responsibility.
  • Coordinate all activities with the Program Manager/Director of Operations.
  • Maintain appropriate materials, equipment, and resources.
  • Evaluate students' knowledge and abilities through written and practical examinations.
  • Certify students in accordance with relevant certification guidelines.
  • Maintain records of students' progress in certification and curriculum-based classes.
  • Maintain relevant industry certifications.
  • Attend and maintain CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Administer first aid and CPR during emergencies.
  • Attend and maintain appropriate crisis intervention and physical restraint training and certification.
  • Prevent and intervene in student altercations and incidents using authorized training methods.
  • Ensure safety, supervision, advising, counseling, and role modeling for the students.
  • Adhere to all contract and state educational guidelines and Quality Improvement requirements.
  • Actively participate in day trips and special activities.
  • Assist with recreational sports, facility and equipment cleaning, ground maintenance, and equipment relocation.
  • Obtain and maintain Lifeguard certification and Challenge Course instructor certification.
  • Transport students and may drive for other work-related tasks.
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.
