Requirements

  • Must be over the age of 21.
  • Must have driven for three years or more.
  • Must possess a current, unencumbered driver’s license issued by the State.
  • Must have valid documentation of a safe driving history.
  • Must complete a basic first aid course.
  • Must complete a driving skills test upon hire.
  • Have a thorough understanding of the principles of growth and development for the entire life-span with the ability to provide care appropriate for adult and geriatric patients.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to function independently and make independent decisions when circumstances warrant.
  • Personal integrity and the ability to deal tactfully with residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, and personnel.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with professional and non-professional personnel.
  • Judgment in prioritizing the performance of tasks, duties, and responsibilities.
  • Ability to be discrete and protect the integrity of confidential information.
  • Ability to stay within Corporate Compliance and HIPPA.
  • Patience, a cheerful disposition, enthusiasm, and a willingness to handle residents based on their current maturity and physical level.
  • Ability to adhere to professional code of ethics.
  • Ability to relate information concerning a resident’s condition to the appropriate staff members.
  • Knowledge on the use of personal computers, e-mail accounts, software programs such as Word and Excel, and minor office machines such as faxes and copiers.

Responsibilities

  • Provide transportation to and from the facility’s activity programs, physician’s appointments, and outings.
  • Make deliveries and perform other transportation duties in the company mini van or small 10-passenger bus.
  • Load and unload residents into the transport vehicle and secure them safely.
  • Transport residents to physician’s offices, designated activity locations, and other appointments.
  • Ensure a charged cell phone is available at all times during bus operation and refrain from using it while driving.
  • Ensure the resident LOA is signed by nursing personnel or themselves.
  • Ensure all necessary paperwork accompanies residents for appointments, maintaining confidentiality and security of resident information.
  • Report to the nurse upon resident return and accurately record transports.
  • Call 911 immediately if a resident requires medical attention and notify the HFA and DON.
  • Report to the appropriate Charge Nurse or designee any resident lacking proper I.D.
  • Report any significant change in a resident’s condition or poor tolerance during transport to the Charge Nurse.
  • Display a pleasant, interested, and positive approach to residents.
  • Work cooperatively as a member of a team.
  • Represent the facility in a professional and positive manner in dress and behavior.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all residents and their care.
  • Report and document resident and/or visitor incidents, accidents, complaints, or allegations.
  • Comply with safety requirements, infection control measures, and maintain a clean work environment.
  • Complete a pre-inspection and post-trip inspection of the bus, ensuring all residents and belongings are removed.
  • Ensure a basic first aid kit is present on the vehicle.
  • Wear a seat belt and ensure all passengers and companions wear seat belts at all times.
  • Ensure any passenger in a wheelchair is properly secured.
  • Report and log a safety checklist and routine maintenance needs/repairs of the vehicle.
  • Notify the HFA of any accident, damage, or mechanical problems with the bus.
  • Ensure work/assignment areas are clean and records are properly stored.
  • Abide by all emergency protocols.
  • Report any forms of abuse witnessed and take appropriate action.
  • Follow infection control and universal precautions procedures.
  • Follow periodic cleaning schedules for equipment and return equipment to the proper area after use.
  • Ensure the facility is maintained in a clean and sanitary manner at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
