About The Position

The Activities Director develops and implements therapeutic individual and group activities for clients in coordination with the Program Director and Executive Director. This role brings in new ideas and activities for the clients, organizes group and community activities, and completes initial activity assessments on all clients. The position provides structure, discipline, and security, along with individual and group activity modules. The Activities Director serves as an adult role model, supervises and monitors clients, and intervenes in crisis situations using the approved Mandt system. This role also contributes to treatment plan updates, attends multidisciplinary treatment team meetings, and schedules activities for special events. A key responsibility is creating quarterly meetings with unit staff to collaborate on new activities, managing and updating the daily schedule, and ensuring recreation staff have sufficient groups and necessary equipment. The Director manages all certificates for extracurricular groups, supervises equine specialists, master gardeners, and ropes course employees, and manages the activity budget. They report unusual incidents, implement Saint Francis Ministries policies, and ensure clients' rights are protected. Knowledge of and adherence to all safety procedures is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in human services or related field.
  • First Aid/CPR.
  • Mandt certification.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Must pass a physical examination, including drug screen and TB Skin Test.
  • Must pass an MVR, KBI and Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry Clearance check.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Lifting requirements of 50 lbs.

  • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist
  • 2 years’ experience in developing activity programming with children/adolescents.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement therapeutic individual and group activities for the clients in coordination with the Program Director and Executive Director.
  • Bring in new ideas and activities to the clients we serve.
  • Organize group and community activities.
  • Complete initial activity assessments on all clients.
  • Provide structure, discipline, and security in meeting the needs of the clients.
  • Provide individual and group activity modules for the clients.
  • Serve as an adult role model and a source of feedback to the clients.
  • Always supervise and monitor clients.
  • Intervene in crisis situations using the approved Mandt system.
  • Contribute to the treatment plan updates monthly.
  • Attend the weekly multi-disciplinary treatment team meetings.
  • Schedule activities for special events such as all holidays, spring breaks and days off of school.
  • Create a quarterly meeting with each unit and staff member to collaborate on new and innovative activities.
  • Manage and update the daily schedule and ensure staff have access to the schedule.
  • Ensure the recreation staff have sufficient number of groups.
  • Ensure staff have all the activities equipment to ensure the schedule can be followed.
  • Manage all certificates required for all the extracurricular groups including but not limited to the equine, the ropes, and the master gardening.
  • Contribute to developing new programs and improving current programs, procedures, and resources.
  • Supervise the equine specialists, master gardener, and ropes course employees.
  • Manage activity budget and effectively communicate budgeted needs to the Executive Director.
  • Report unusual incidents through appropriate Risk Management, clinical and safety channels.
  • Implement Saint Francis Ministries policies and follow directives as required.
  • Follow and adhere to all pertinent Saint Francis Ministries Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), rules, personnel policies, and procedures; related accreditation and licensure standards; and federal, state, and local rules, statutes, regulations, and all term of the contract between Saint Francis Ministries and DCF.
  • Ensure clients’ rights are protected.
  • Make sure all clients have received their rights and maintain a signed copy in each resident file.
  • Be knowledgeable of and follow all safety procedures.
