About The Position

The Wellness & Engagement Director provides strategic leadership for all resident engagement, life enrichment, wellness, transportation, and activity services throughout the community. This position creates an exceptional resident experience by developing meaningful, person-centered programs that promote purpose, independence, dignity, cognitive wellness, physical well-being, and social connection across Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Memory Care. The Director leads and develops the Wellness & Engagement team, including Life Enrichment Coordinator, Activity Associates, Drivers, volunteers, and community partners, while ensuring programs support residents' physical, emotional, intellectual, social, spiritual, and cognitive wellness. This leader partners closely with Resident Care, Dining, Rehabilitation, Sales, and Executive Leadership to ensure engagement is integrated into every aspect of community life. The Director is responsible for department operations, financial performance, regulatory compliance, associate development, resident satisfaction, transportation services, and continuous quality improvement.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3-5 years leadership experience in the areas of aging fitness, wellness and/or senior engagement programming
  • Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation Therapy, Gerontology, Healthcare Administration, Human Services, Exercise Science, or related field.
  • Has 2 years’ experience in a social recreational program with older adults with dementia within the last five years, one of which was full-time in an activity program in a health care or assisted living setting per state guidelines.
  • Ability to drive a 14-passenger bus
  • Valid state Driver’s License with a clean driving record
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Exceptional ability to organize, prioritize and multi-task in an extremely dynamic environment
  • Experience working with and coordinating volunteer groups
  • Experience in fitness and wellness planning and teaching with older adults preferred
  • Experience leading Memory Care programming.
  • ICAA Foundation for Wellness Certification preferred or required within one year.
  • Ability to convey a positive and professional image to residents, family members, visitors and co-workers
  • Strong creative and organizational skills
  • Computer knowledge for calendar and flyer creation

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, hire, onboard, coach, mentor, and develop a high-performing Wellness & Engagement team.
  • Maintain staffing schedules that provide excellent resident engagement while managing labor budgets.
  • Plan and implement fitness & wellness programs and engagement that enrich whole-person wellness in the following categories: physical, social, intellectual, spiritual, and special requests of the residents.
  • Manage the department operating budget while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
  • Manage outside vendors, entertainers, instructors, and transportation partners.
  • Provide leadership for all Memory Care engagement programming using evidence-based dementia care practices.
  • Ensure all programming reflects residents' individual life stories, preferences, strengths, abilities, routines, and cognitive levels.
  • Analyze participation trends, resident satisfaction, transportation utilization, and department performance metrics to improve outcomes.
  • Ensure residents living with dementia experience meaningful moments throughout the day through our Live Well Program.
  • Instruct physical exercise and brain fitness classes, personal training, as well as coordinate contract and other instructors to supplement classes in Independent Living and Resident Care.
  • Facilitate Continuum of Care Meetings with Resident Care Director, General Manager, Wellness and PT/OT Partners to create wellness plans for those residents in need.
  • Ensure engagement programming supports residents seven days per week, including evenings and weekends.
  • Increase Wellness and Engagement participation through personal invitations and reminders for residents.
  • Create customized programming specific to the interests and desires of the residents.
  • Work with Engagement Coordinators on scheduling Fitness and Wellness events.
  • Chaperone wellness engagement outside the community.
  • Coordinate monthly themed wellness seminars and/or screenings.
  • Supervise, train, and conduct performance appraisals for employees of the fitness, wellness and transportation aspects of the Wellness Department.
  • Encourage annual participation in charity-focused engagement.
  • Promote special events and wellness incentive campaigns and decorate accordingly.
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance and purchase of any Wellness Center equipment and supplies within the guidelines of the budget.
  • Coordinate food requirements for scheduled engagement with dining associates by using event function sheets.
  • Coordinate and encourage wellness programs that market Parc Communities to prospective residents and the public. Also provide wellness articles for publication when needed.
  • Develop and implement monthly newsletter for residents and family members.
  • Communicate with all staff about event function sheets in which they are involved.
  • Ensure instructor certification maintenance and continuing education requirements are met.
  • Oversee transportation schedules that maximize resident participation.
  • Ensure compliance with vehicle inspections, driver training, licensing requirements, accident reporting, and safety standards.
  • Coordinate intergenerational programs that allow Parc residents interaction with different age groups and help create awareness of positive aging in the community.
  • Advise management of any concerns with the resident.
  • Assist with the development and monitoring of the Fitness/Wellness/Engagement department budgets.
  • Participate in the Manager on Duty scheduled rotation on weekends.
  • Coordinate any outside volunteer or student involvement in fitness and wellness programs.
  • Coordinate all monthly wellness services, such as Blood pressure checks, podiatry, reflexology, massage therapy, doctor services, etc.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by the General Manager.
