About The Position

At RK&K, we are shaping the future of transportation in Cities, Towns, and States on the East Coast and increasingly across the country. We are currently seeking an entry-to-mid-level active transportation planner to be a part of our multi-disciplinary team. As an Active Transportation Planner in the Healthy Communities Group, you will be responsible for the preparation and interpretation of technical information pertinent to transportation planning as it relates to pedestrians, bicyclists, trails, roadway safety, and other active transportation topics. You will work from our Baltimore’s Inner Harbor office and collaborate with other teammates across our other offices in 14 states. The position requires proficiency in a broad range of transportation planning areas, including multi-modal planning, corridor studies, complete street plans, trail feasibility studies, and geographic information systems. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, urban studies, transportation engineering, or related field
  • Interest in active transportation issues
  • 0-5 years of experience in transportation planning
  • Demonstrated technical and non-technical professional writing
  • Demonstrated knowledge of transportation planning fundamentals
  • Previous experience with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) to support public engagement and report layout
  • ESRI ArcGIS Pro analysis and cartography skills
  • Knowledge of the ESRI ArcGIS Online environment

Nice To Haves

  • Digital image rendering experience (street cross-sections, isometric maps, etc.)
  • Master’s degree in urban planning or a related field

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team on projects ranging from the visioning stage to the concept development stage.
  • Develop, prepare, implement diverse range of transportation planning projects, including corridor studies, feasibility studies, transportation safety action plans, pathway network plans, etc.
  • Produce professional transportation documents, tools, and presentations to be used for client, stakeholder, and public engagement i.e. committees, member agencies, working groups, community groups, private organizations, and various members of the public.
  • Demonstrate creativity and critical thinking in solving complex transportation challenges, especially when multiple stakeholders with varied interests are involved.
  • Support project managers in crafting meeting materials, completing meeting minutes and public input summaries, drafting recommendations, and developing final plan documents.
  • Work with the public and engage diverse communities through a variety of avenues including pop-up events, open houses, and workshops.
  • Create polished graphs, infographics, and maps for use in reports, public engagement materials, and websites.
  • Conduct essential analyses and craft recommendations for planning efforts, studies, and plans.
