About The Position

The primary duty is to tutor students in LMSC 208 (all sections) who are having difficulties with the subject matter. Secondary duties include assisting with the grading of exams, maintaining attendance records, and assisting with the preparation of materials. Tutors are expected to assist current LMSC-208 and/or LMSC-209 students with questions/concerns regarding course material. As such, they should enjoy working with other students in a learning environment. Tutors must be able to understand the students’ questions, and to explain proper problem solving skills. Additionally, they must also be able to explain the main acoustic concepts covered in these classes, including sound waves, transmission of sound, noise reduction, etc.

Requirements

  • Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.
  • Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program. Summer is the only semester in which a student can maintain employment without being enrolled. In this case, the student must be pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester. This exception does not apply to fall or spring semesters.
  • Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).
  • Remain in “valid” Visa status as applicable.
  • A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students in their first semester can work, even though they do not have an official GPA until the completion of their first semester.
  • Federal Work Study student may apply.
  • In good disciplinary standing.
  • Must be located in the U.S.
  • A grade of ‘B’ or better in LMSC-208, LMSC-209 OR the equivalent.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of the principles of acoustics.
  • A good knowledge of math and the willingness to help those deficient in this area.

  • Willingness to meet regularly at set times with students as well as an openness to make other times available to suit student schedules

Nice To Haves

  • Preference is given to someone who has taken LMSC 208 and made a high grade in the course.
  • A student who has taken LMSC 209 will also be considered.
  • A joy about acoustics and the desire to learn more about the subject
