About The Position

SMARDT is looking to hire a BUYER for the Purchasing Department. This person will be responsible for purchasing materials for production and other business needs. Reporting to the Purchasing Supervisor, the ideal candidate will be flexible, dynamic, and resourceful.

Requirements

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, at an intermediate to advanced level.
  • Have experience with Microsoft Dynamics Navision Business Central.
  • Self-sufficient, with a strong ability to learn and highly motivated.
  • Possess strong reasoning skills and good judgment.
  • Organized, curious, and detail-oriented.
  • Have strong analytical skills and are comfortable working with numerical data.
  • Demonstrate an excellent ability to prioritize multiple tasks and thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in Management, Supply Chain, Accounting, or Logistics.
  • Have 3–5 years of purchasing experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • The ability to communicate in French with our Quebec team is important.
  • We operate in a multicultural and international environment, so strong English skills are also required to collaborate effectively with our suppliers and global team.

Nice To Haves

  • PMAC (Purchasing Management Association of Canada) certification considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Organize material deliveries with the Transportation Coordinator
  • Assess purchasing needs and develop specifications for equipment, materials, and supplies to be purchased
  • Issue requests for quotations (RFQs), consult suppliers, review bids, and negotiate pricing
  • Follow up with suppliers on purchases to ensure deliveries align with the production schedule
  • Analyze consumption to establish and monitor reorder points through MRP / ERP systems
  • Manage certain material shortages
  • Review purchase orders and invoices for discrepancies
  • Resolve issues related to orders and materials as needed
  • Recommend industry best practices and promote continuous improvement
  • Other duties as demanded by the procurement supervisor
