About The Position

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol's primary mission is to reduce collisions and make the highways of North Carolina as safe as possible. The NCSHP has more than 1,600 troopers who cover nearly 80,000 miles of North Carolina roadways, more than any other state except Texas. In addition to enforcing the state's traffic laws, state troopers also guide traffic during hurricane evacuations, re-route traffic around hazardous chemical spills, and they stand ready should any act of terrorism occur. State Troopers are committed to protecting North Carolina's motoring public. The NC State Highway Patrol (NCSHP) is seeking an Accreditation Director to join our Professional Standards Section! The Accreditation Director serves as the agency lead to ensure North Carolina State Highway Patrol achieves and maintains accreditation through the Commission Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, INC. (CALEA) and any other certification program directed by the Commander's Office.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution AND two (2) years of experience related to the area of assignment; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Qualified recommended applicant(s) must undergo and successfully pass: Criminal Background Investigation
  • Qualified recommended applicant(s) must undergo and successfully pass: Drug Screening Test

  • Ability to independently answer inquires, coordinate resources, develop policies and be persuasive in communications.
  • Possess an intricate knowledge of the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) and their standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the agency’s accreditation program, ensuring continuous compliance with CALEA standards and coordinating all related administrative and operational processes.
  • Develop, update, and maintain accreditation files and documentation, including proofs of compliance, policies, directives, reports, and assessments.
  • Coordinate on-site and remote CALEA assessments, serving as the primary point of contact for CALEA representatives, preparing required reports, and facilitating interviews and reviews.
  • Collaborate with command staff, supervisors, and functional units to ensure policies and procedures are accurate, up-to-date, and aligned with CALEA standards and industry’s best practices.
  • Provide training, guidance, and presentations to personnel regarding accreditation requirements, policy updates, and compliance responsibilities.
  • Monitor changes to CALEA standards and accreditation requirements, analyze impacts on agency operations, and lead the implementation of necessary adjustments.
  • The position provides training, guidance, and leadership to procurement staff to foster professional development and ensure high performance; to include, completing performance appraisals for assigned staff, participating in the interview and hiring process, and ensuring accuracy and compliance in all assigned work.
