The Accounts Receivable (A/R) Specialist is responsible for actively monitoring accounts receivable aging, resolving complex claim issues, and managing claims-related collection activities to ensure timely and accurate reimbursement. This role works payer and patient balances across service lines and requires strong skills in claim research, payer policy interpretation, denial management, follow-up, and documentation. The AR Specialist partners with internal clinical/authorization teams, billing, and leadership to reduce aged AR, identify root causes, and improve cash performance.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor accounts receivable aging and prioritize follow-up on outstanding balances.
  • Ensure claims are worked within payer timely filing and appeal deadlines.
  • Addresses errors provided by Billing and other teams, confirming coverage for end dates and policy changes.
  • Works collaboratively with Billing to address new SAL extractions, changes to policy, and work errors related to insurance billing.
  • Research and corrects invalid or incorrect demographic information.
  • Works collaboratively with intake, authorization, clinical, billing and other teams in researching and resolving rejected, incorrectly paid, and/or denied claims.
  • Reviews and explains financial obligations and responsibilities with individual served and/or appropriate other supportive teams, answering questions related to billing and insurance.
  • Acts as a liaison between individuals served, staff and the billing department.
  • Identify recurring issues or denial trends and escalate as appropriate.
  • Meet productivity, quality, and aging reduction goals.
  • Demonstrates the ability to engage persons served in a welcoming, hopeful, empathetic manner regardless of disability or phase of recovery.
  • Provides outstanding customer service, responding to inquiries and requests from both persons served and internal customers, in a professional and timely manner.
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
