About The Position

The Superior Court of Los Angeles County is seeking an Accounting Technician to join their team. This role supports a wide range of financial and accounting operations within a fast-paced court environment. The Accounting Technician will ensure the accurate processing, verification, and distribution of funds while maintaining compliance with established financial procedures, legal requirements, and internal controls. Responsibilities include reconciling accounts, processing claims, managing trust funds, handling bail refunds, and supporting revenue distribution activities. The position also provides customer service and technical assistance to court staff, attorneys, agencies, and the public regarding financial and accounting matters. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and capable of exercising sound judgment while handling confidential information with professionalism and accuracy. This is a telework-eligible opportunity after an initial training period, contingent upon the needs of the Court.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent.
  • Completion of coursework in bookkeeping and accounting.
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in performing financial or statistical recordkeeping.
  • At least two (2) years of which were at the level of Accounting Assistant.
  • Educational credentials (transcript or completion record showing coursework in bookkeeping and accounting) must be attached to the application.

Responsibilities

  • Process, reconcile, verify, and maintain financial transactions, accounting records, deposits, and revenue distributions in accordance with court policies and accounting procedures.
  • Prepare, review, and generate financial reports, journal vouchers, trust fund transactions, bail refunds, claims, and other accounting documentation accurately and timely.
  • Research, identify, and resolve discrepancies related to deposits, revenue distribution, trust accounts, returned payments, claims, and financial records.
  • Provide courteous and accurate assistance to court staff, attorneys, justice partners, and the public regarding accounting procedures, financial inquiries, and case-related transactions.
  • Utilize financial management systems and software to track, reconcile, and report financial and case management information.
  • Support budget and expenditure monitoring activities by verifying coding accuracy, ensuring compliance with financial policies and procedures, assisting with monthly close activities, and preparing supporting documentation for financial review.
