About The Position

Under general supervision, performs difficult and responsible accounting support and administrative work in classifying and processing accounting transactions, maintaining and reconciling assigned accounts and compiling, reviewing and verifying data and information to prepare assigned financial and accounting reports. Maintains accurate records and files. Utilizes appropriate financial or spreadsheet applications software to code, verify and post accounting and financial data to adjust, update and balance program accounts and related budgets. Reviews, adjusts and assures accuracy of journal entries for purchases, cash receipts and other financial transactions. Audits assigned program accounts and related data, identifies discrepancies and resolves errors within the scope of position authority and functional oversight. Researches, compiles, prepares and distributes financial reports for assigned program functions, including calculating and preparing income and expenditure projections and assisting in the development and preparation of assigned program budgets. Performs accounting functions and stays abreast of laws, policies and guidelines within an assigned area of responsibility, which may include inputting, auditing and analyzing student enrollment and attendance accounting data to assure accurate accounting in accordance with established policies and procedures and preparing District, County and State enrollment and attendance accounting records and reports. Receives and reviews applications for the use of District facilities, determines facility use fees and issues permits by referencing established guidelines for requestor eligibility. Prepares invoices for facility use and assures payments are received in a timely manner. Reviews and processes employee expense reimbursement requests for accuracy and compliance with District policy. Serves as a technical resource to personnel and others concerning assigned accounting functions and the use of facilities and fields. May assist with internal and external audits as required. May collect, receive, code and verify incoming monies as assigned. May perform a variety of administrative and clerical functions in support of department operations. Attends meetings, workshops and confederacies as assigned. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or an equivalent supplemented by 24 units of college-level coursework, with at least 9 units in the field of Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a closely related field.
  • A minimum of two (2) years performing responsible financial or statistical record keeping and reporting analysis.
  • Valid California Class C Driver's License.
  • Knowledge of fundamental accounting principles and financial recordkeeping and reporting techniques.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices in budgeting and auditing procedures.
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic computations.
  • Knowledge of correct English usage, including spelling, grammar and punctuation.
  • Ability to learn Federal and state laws, codes, and regulations applicable to school district accounting practices and keep abreast of any changes relative to school district governmental fund accounting, budget classification, and transfer job knowledge in the course of performing assigned job functions.
  • Ability to self-direct in establishing work priorities and meeting assignment timelines and reporting deadlines.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow directions given verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to demonstrate mental acuity sufficient to perform the essential functions of the position and exercise sound judgment within areas of responsibility.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain basic filing systems for program required recordkeeping.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with children and parents, program staff and the public.
  • Ability to maintain regular and consistent attendance sufficient to complete the duties of the position as required.
