Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site as needed. This position reports to our offices at 1200 N. Federal Boulevard in Denver three days a week and telecommutes remotely at a designated workplace within the State of Colorado the remaining days. Denver Human Services is seeking a knowledgeable, empathetic, and detail-oriented individual to serve as an Accounting Supervisor for the Denver Human Services Financial Services Division. In this role, you will supervise staff/ associate/ senior accountants performing bank, fund, and other reconciliations. This position will report to the Financial Services Division deputy director of accounting. This position will also supervise between 3 and 8 employees (depending on final structure of team) in addition to the following duties:

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
  • Three (3) years of full performance level professional accounting experience reconciling accounting discrepancies, analyzing expenditures, and preparing financial reports.

Nice To Haves

  • Have a deep familiarity with City fiscal accountability rules, federal uniform guidance, and other financial requirements in Denver Revised Municipal Code or other sources. Ensure all transactions are properly accounted for given this guidance
  • Experience forecasting and preparing monthly financial reports
  • Experience forecasting and managing budgets to support organizational and project objectives

Responsibilities

  • Ensure reconciliations are performed timely and accurately
  • Identify training and development opportunities for accountants.
  • Fill vacancies as needed
  • Review and approve transactions in Workday and/or supervise accountants approving transactions in Workday.
  • Ensure appropriate fund and cost center coding is used
  • Oversees gift card and RTD ticket issuance database.
  • Ensure all outstanding gift cards issued are followed-up on and properly accounted for with requisite client signature and backup documentation
  • Oversee Denver Human Services annual asset inventory and 1099 processes
  • Supervisor fiscal operational supervisor and/or accounting technicians managing foster care and representative payee client trust accounts, seeking reimbursement on interim assistance reimbursement claims, and applying client recovery payments.
  • Ensure claims/recoveries/account management are performed timely and accurately.
  • Identify training and development opportunities for fiscal operational supervisor and accounting technicians
  • Draft policies and procedures
  • Review and improve existing transaction intake and confirmation processes
  • Provide subject matter expertise to programmatic divisions related to all types of accounting inquiries
