About The Position

As the Supervisor, Accounting at TDS, you will provide leadership and direct supervision to the Accounting team, including hiring, performance management, establishment of metrics, reporting, employee development, and coaching. In addition to leadership and direct supervision role, this position is responsible for supervising the activities to ensure compliance with internal controls and all SOX requirements, including being a point of contact with both internal and external auditors. The position also entails executing general accounting activities, including day-to-day maintenance of a complete and accurate general ledger and in preparing financial statements and reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) or 4+ years professional work experience
  • 5+ years’ experience in the application of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) or equivalent combination of technical and functional experience
  • 2+ years of experience directly supervising employees or leading projects/teams
  • Experience with large process improvement and/or organizational efforts
  • Occasional travel may be required

Nice To Haves

  • CPA or eligibility to sit for the CPA within the first six months of employment.
  • Knowledge of GAAP, SEC rules, and Sarbanes Oxley Act requirements
  • Knowledge of quarterly, annual and periodic external reporting processes of 10-Q, 10-K, 8-K and other SEC filings

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction to Accounting team:
  • Supervising team members, evaluating performance and providing feedback, and facilitating career development opportunities for direct reports
  • Develops personnel goals and objectives, and determines how to use resources to coordinate the activities of the function in order to meet business schedules and goals.
  • Development and maintenance of applicable metrics and reporting.
  • Development of standard processes and documentation.
  • Identify and lead business process improvement opportunities.
  • Maintain and foster effective relationships at all levels both within and outside of the company
  • Research and recommend appropriate accounting treatment for business activities and support applicable memo documentation
  • Ensure compliance with SOX and other internal controls and standard business practices.
  • Safeguard company assets (cash, fixed assets, inventory).
  • Review work product of other team members
  • Validate work product is accurate and appropriate, including journal entries, financial analysis, external and regulatory reports, etc.
  • Provide feedback, including sharing best practices, to team member.
  • May be assigned to management of one or more finance functional areas below:
  • General/Business Unit Accounting
  • Supervise process to prepare and review journal entries in accordance with regulatory and/or GAAP requirements
  • Review reconciliations and research discrepancies of balance sheet accounts
  • Supervise the compilation of monthly income statement and balance sheet analysis to support internal and external reporting
  • Operational Accounting
  • Effectively communicate financial information for internal and external audit
  • Review certain external regulatory filings and reporting
  • Lead certain accounting activities as assigned such as company level audits
  • Validate work product is accurate and appropriate
  • Cash Accounting
  • Manage the monitoring of cash general ledger accounts and reconciliation of bank accounts and statements for completeness and accuracy.
  • Analyze the cause of over/shorts related to bank deposits where more complex analysis is required; work with leaders to minimize these discrepancies
  • Supervise daily reconciliation of all cash and non-cash receipts.
  • Lead the maintenance of procedural and control documentation for Cash Accounting activities.
