Position Information Job Series: Accountants Classification: Accounting Supervisor/Expert – Career Path Class Code: FAC05P Pay Grade: SPC04 Salary Range: $78,130 - $115,632 Job Summary The Accounting Supervisor/Expert is responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting operations and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial transactions. This position requires a strong understanding of accounting principles and financial regulations, as well as the ability to lead, mentor, and support accounting teams. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising accounting staff, coordinating complex accounting functions, and ensuring compliance with state financial policies.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field from an accredited college or university, plus 4 years of accounting experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and financial reporting.
  • Strong experience in budgeting, managing financial reports, and analyzing financial data.
  • Knowledge of state, federal, and departmental financial regulations and standards.
  • Ability to analyze complex financial data, resolve discrepancies, and develop actionable recommendations.
  • Advanced proficiency in accounting software (e.g., PeopleSoft, Oracle, QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel (including pivot tables, formulas, and financial models).

Nice To Haves

  • Strong experience in budgeting, forecasting, and managing large scale financial operations.
  • Advanced knowledge of GAAP and state/federal financial regulations.
  • Proven leadership experience supervising accounting or fiscal teams.
  • Ability to analyze complex financial data and provide strategic recommendations.
  • High proficiency with accounting systems (AASIS/S4HANA/SAP, Oracle, etc.) and advanced Excel

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise a team of accountants, ensuring their work is completed accurately, on time, and in compliance with state regulations.
  • Conduct performance evaluations for accounting staff, providing feedback and identifying areas for improvement and professional growth.
  • Review and approve financial reports, ensuring they are accurate, complete, and comply with applicable accounting standards and regulations.
  • Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, providing insights and recommendations to management.
  • Ensure that all accounting activities comply with applicable state, federal, and departmental regulations.
  • Coordinate the preparation for internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and information as required.
  • Manage and review complex financial transactions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting policies.
