About The Position
The Patient Finance group at the Arizona State Hospital needs an Accounting Specialist to run daily patient banking operations. This role involves banking-style accounting work inside Arizona's state hospital. It's a meaningful role where you manage the trust funds patients rely on for their personal needs. This is a contract position through June 2027, offering nearly a year of steady work.
Requirements
- Fiscal and financial record-keeping experience (banking, teller, cash operations, or bookkeeping background fits well)
- Ledger and journal maintenance skill
- Accuracy under daily balancing discipline
- Clear, patient verbal and written communication
- Phoenix-area residents only (current city on your resume)
- N-95 mask fitting
- Background check and drug screening
Responsibilities
- Perform cash disbursements and check deposits
- Maintain and balance cash drawers, investigating any overages or shortages
- Enter and reconcile daily deposit transactions
- Reconcile check registers
- Approve patient withdrawal vouchers and review accounts for errors
- Maintain ledger accounts with supporting documentation
- Communicate with patients, staff, guardians, and family members about deposit funds
