About The Position

The Veterinary Information Network (VIN), an online community and educational resource for veterinarians, is looking for an experienced Accountant to join our accounting team and worldwide VIN family in Davis, CA. This is an onsite position. Are you an experienced accounting professional with advanced Excel skills, a solid understanding of GAAP and tax guidelines, and familiarity with accounting software like QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions, QuickBooks Online, Xero, DataRails, Microsoft Office, and Adobe? Under the general direction of the Financial Controller, you will play a key role in supporting veterinarians worldwide by ensuring the smooth operation of VIN’s accounting functions. This position requires comprehensive experience across all areas of accounting, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and financial reporting (both internal and external).

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in accounting and business administration
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and tax guidelines
  • Familiarity with accounting software like QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions, QuickBooks Online, Xero, DataRails, Microsoft Office, and Adobe
  • Foundational understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Proficient in various software programs and quick to learn new systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Microsoft Office, email platforms, web browsers, and VIN-specific tools)
  • Understands accounting processes and procedures
  • Manages and prioritizes daily, monthly, and quarterly responsibilities effectively
  • Communicates clearly in both written and verbal formats
  • Works independently and collaboratively
  • Adaptable and open to cross-training and adopting new processes
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing and analyzing financial data
  • Can assign GL accounts, cross-reference purchase requisitions, obtain approvals, and research unidentified transactions
  • Resolves discrepancies and disputes related to credit card transactions and purchase orders efficiently

  • Knowledgeable about fixed asset management and sales/use tax

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the preparation and monitoring of the month-end close process
  • Run desktop deposits
  • Input, maintain, and reconcile fixed assets
  • Analyze, research, and record sales receipts
  • Assist with internal control audits, including running reports and gathering documentation for auditors
  • Prepare and reconcile annual property tax returns
  • Perform monthly reconciliations for accounts, credit cards, and bank accounts
  • Prepare and post journal entries
  • Enter, maintain, and update annual budgets
  • Analyze credit card accounts and compile merchant account documentation and receipts
  • Monitor and close purchase requisitions
  • Perform special projects as assigned
  • Assisting with accounts payable and sales tax, as well as other related tasks as needed.
